Big Twin Lake Campground

Best place we've ever parked our Aliner in terms of the happiness of our dogs. Lots of grass, lots of birds/water to watch, no up tight "get them on a leash!" attitude from anyone . . . and when our dogs are happy, so are we! Seriously, we loved the place. Very clean grounds, lots of lake frontage, morning sun, afternoon shade, fabulous 25 cent showers . . . super relaxing! Though we were gone all day hiking the area, there were some people who just sat in their chairs and read and enjoyed the bug-free days in the sun. We'd return in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Areas A and B (electric hook-ups) always have a nice breeze

The beautiful grounds are very well-maintained, with regular watering and mowing. The restrooms are less so--in some need of maintenence but reasonably clean. The staff's communication with guests could be better. For example, nobody mentioned to us, if you want to take a shower, you'd better have some quarters along. We weren't the only campers to be surprised when we got into the stall and didn't have the needed coins. Campers were lending quarters to each other, especially newcomers, to avoid the cold-water rinse. After paying 40 bucks a night for a campsite, I wasn't pleased to be nickle-and-dimed for a shower, especially without warning.
The area is a few miles out of town, and very quiet--something we appreciated.
The surroundings are attractive, but part of the lake is actually a wetland, with all that entails--including ducks, frogs, osprey, and mosquitoes. If you're camping in mosquito season, be prepared for plenty. After a couple of days there, we moved to a FS campground upriver, where the bugs were far less numerous.
