Drove through the Cascades and through the Methow Valley. Beautiful country. Diverse and all the cute little towns along the way. Their was very little traffic on the road which was a huge plus. Lovely easy drive.

If you like anything to do with the outdoors, regardless of the level of activity, the Methow Valley is for you. The options are endless - hiking, fishing, bird watching, horseback rides, shopping, dining, golf, etc. Or just relaxing while enjoying the scenery and wildlife all around. This is a beautiful place to spend time during any season.

Whether it's skiing, hiking, biking, hunting or fishing, you'll find plenty of outlets in the Methow. The cross-country and backcountry skiing are the best, with excellent groomed trails. Generally, the Rendezvous area has more snow, and holds it longer. People like the trails at Sun Mountain, since the distance is less, and you can go have lunch or a drink afterwards. Mazama also offers easy trails and the latte loop has some good places to eat and drink as well. And, don't forget about Loup Loup for either downhill or cross-country skiing.

The best bike ride is to ride from Winthrop or Mazama (if you prefer shorter distance) west along Highway 20 in April, before they open up Washington Pass to cars. It is deluxe, and a serious biker will consider it one of the best rides of their lives. Climbs about 3800 feet from Winthrop and 3500 from Mazama, most of that in the last ten miles.

hiking? it's everywhere, just get a copy of the excellent Methow Valley Recreation Map. There's weeks of hiking here. Ditto for mountain biking, mostly on the USFS roads, though there are some good single tracks, and more are being planned.

A post activity beer at the Old Schoolhouse is de rigueur.

Miles and miles and variety of trails. Parking lot packed with cars but hardly saw anyone on the trails. Could ski a week and have a different experience at a different palce each day. Skills levels for everyone.
