The Shafer Museum was amazing. Such an incredible collection of period pieces. Volunteers were very nice and helpful.

One short block up the hill from the center of town, it would be easy to miss this treasure...What a gem! Open air boardwalks lead visitors through a series of scenes from the early history of the area. Signage is well done...great information, but not so much that you spend all your time reading instead of enjoying.
All ages will enjoy...and if not, just sit and enjoy the view. To find it, signs point you up the hill by the main Tourist Information office, or there's a shortcut at the south end of main street.

We spent a couple of Days in Winthrop and quickly tired of the downtown area. Our RV park was across the street from Shafer so we went on in one day. What a great presentation of the history of the Methow Valley and Winthrop! Donations accepted, recommended two bucks....it was worth ten to us!

Took the family and our child to the museum, well worth the time. Held her interest given that she could visit a variety of real exhibits of the Old West, mining, little school/classroom, kitchen, post office, cabin, transportation, etc. Appreciated the low/no fee admission to make it affordable. Staff was friendly!
