Overall we had a lovely weekend at Alderbrook with our 2 young children (ages 3 and 5). We stayed in one of the cottages.

Pros:
--Cottage was good size for a family so kids could have their own rooms!
--Stuff to do with the kids: our favorite was the geocaching trails they had set up. We hadn't done this before and it was so fun! We did 2 of the 3 trails-- the "easy" one which was a good warm-up since we'd never done it before, and the "hiking trail" which was quite beautiful. There are easily accessible hiking trails right from the resort. They had obviously been set up with care. This would be a fun activity for a family, a fun & romantic date, or even a "team building" exercise for a work group. They seemed to vary in length, with the easy one (not surprisingly!) being pretty short. The hiking one took us about 1.5-2 hours (would have been faster with just adults). The pool was nothing special, but fine for the kids. Boat rentals were easy to obtain by walking right out on the dock. We enjoyed the fire pits and some games (bean bag toss, that sort of thing) just out and available for people to use. Most everyone who worked there that we encountered was friendly.

Cons:
--Basically the most challenging thing here was food. If we would have known better I would have brought a bunch of groceries with us. There was one restaurant on the resort and while the food was pretty good the service was terrible, especially if you are traveling with small children. On Saturday night we went to eat just before 6pm. They did not have any tables available (no problem-- I totally get that) and when I asked how long the wait would be for 4 people they told us there was no availability the entire night. This posed a problem as we didn't have food with us and there aren't that many options nearby. I was surprised that the resort in a relatively remote location would not be able to accommodate feeding their guests. The next night we were smarter and made a reservation, though I think not being a weekend the restaurant was much emptier. Despite the lack of patrons, we waited 20min for a server to even come to our table and introduce themself and ask if we wanted drinks; they were flustered when we then tried to put our food order in at that time (we'd already been sitting with the menus for 20min...), and then 2 different servers came in after that, in short succession, to introduce themselves and ask for our drink orders, too. It was clear that they didn't know who was in charge of our table. The food took a long time to come, and mine came 15min after everyone else's so my husband and the kids were already almost done eating. We then waited 30min in between asking for the check and getting it. It just seemed overall really disorganized in there. Our kids are pretty good in restaurants but 2 hours for chicken fingers and spaghetti was beyond their (and, frankly, mine) level of patience. Normally I wouldn't get so crazy about the food thing, but the service was poor for every meal except for breakfast and that can really put a hamper on your vacation when there aren't really many other choices for food. Neither the rooms nor the restaurant were inexpensive, so I just expect a little better service all-around when I am at a resort and paying high rates.
--Our room had definitely been cleaned, but there are some items that are in need of updating in there-- cracks/stains in the shower, stains on some of the furniture, that sort of thing.

Overall a nice place for a getaway near to the Olympics, and an idyllic setting. I would just suggest bringing food (especially if you are traveling with young ones!).

My first time to the Alderbrook Resort was excellent. We arrived during a complimentary wine and s'mores hour which was such a nice touch. We had a canal view room that was beautiful, overlooking the water, dock and grounds. With only a 1 night stay we didn't get to take as much advantage of the water activities, pool, etc. but we had a wonderful dinner with live music starting at 9pm and a delicious Saturday brunch. A summertime note: there may be weddings and other private events going on around the property; they were setting up for a wedding on Saturday when we left and it looked to take up much of the outdoor common area so just something to keep in mind!

This resort is WAY out of my price range. I still visit when I'm in town. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the restaurant is solid. This trip they were out of the one vegetarian entree, but that's life. We still sat for a few hours with a drink and watched the water. They were setting up for a wedding which was fun to watch. The fire pits are good for colder evenings and they'll even sell you a s'mores kit!

I've swum here a few times too. There are stairs down to the beach near the cabins, and the rocky entry is a nice gentle slope. There is a single shower stall in the bathrooms near the cafe, so it is easy to shower off after a swim.

There are often seals in the area. This most recent visit included seeing a day old seal pup. SO cute!!

They rent boats and paddle boards if you are interested.

We love going to Alderbrook Resort &Spa. We are locals, and it's great for a mini vacation when we need a break from the hustle and bustle. If your from out of town it's a great way to "feel" what the NW is all about, especially in the summer time. We love the pool, spa, and game room. Some of the rooms are a little tired, towel hooks coming off walls, little things like that..the patio dining in the summer is really good. Dining at the restaurant, for me personally, isn't my favorite. Over the years I've had some decent dinners/breakfasts.. and other times it just misses the mark. Cabins are great to rent, you can grill on a community grill, while the family plays volley ball, badminton or other seasonal games. You can rent water bikes and paddle boats. In the winter the white lights and decorations are great..you can grab a hot cocoa while catching a ride on the Lady Alderbrook on Hood Canal, come any season.. you'll have a great time.

Excellent Staff and accommodations for a large business group. The outdoor area and gazebo was perfect for a dinner. Chairs and tables were provided for a large group of 200 plus people. The bar and extra rooms upstairs were ample sized to host evening parties. The golfing is outstanding and the spa is with a four to five star rating.
