“Peaceful resort in a beautiful setting.”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

Relaxing for a weekend at Alderbrook at least once a year has been a tradition for my husband and I for the past 5 years or so. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is delicious, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the location is beautiful. I've only visited the spa once but definitely recommend indulging yourself at least once.

My only suggestion is not to get a room near the elevators or a garden view room on the ground floor near the meeting room. The elevator noise carries into the room as does the noise from gatherings in the meeting room.

The food was great and all the staff outstanding. However, the rooms are in need of updating, at least the one we occupied. The paint was chipped, the chair was very worn, there were circles on the top of the coffee stand which could be easily remedied with a piece of granite, and the carpet is out of fashion. The grounds were beautiful as well. It's just time for the place to get a little spiffy work done to the rooms.

Room Tip: Ask to be placed in a room that has been updated if there is such a thing.

Visited the resort for a meeting over the Oct 18th weekend. The food we experienced during the entire event was very good. The customer service was superb. However for this resort to be five star they have to get beds that are not as hard as the floor. The biggest surprise was the size of the bathroom. I have been in bigger RV bathrooms. Others in our group also remarked on how tiny the bathrooms were and that there was less than a half an inch between the bathroom door and the toilet. The room furniture is showing its wear. However you if you are looking for a quiet get away this resort will suffice.

Thank you for choosing our property for your business travel camanoboy! It's always great to hear feedback on our property and yours has been shared with our management team. We're sorry that our bathrooms didn't fit the bill for your group's taste. Most guests love the luxurious soaking tubs but we understand if that's not right for you!

We stayed in creek view room but I couldn't see any creek just trash dumpsters and we hear some kinda humming noises. We couldn't open the window because of the noise. We made the reservation 3 weeks in advance. If you go there, make sure the room is not overlooking the dumpsters.

Don't get me wrong, Alderbrook is a nicer resort than many but after reading so many glowing reviews I was expecting perfection. For the amount we spent (around $4,000 for 4 nights) we were left wanting much more. We went for the cottages and ended up in cottage 10 which is the only one with absolutely no view of the lake. While the rest of the resort seems clean and up to date the cottages are badly in need of attention. The sofa and blanket that sat on it were filthy and smelly. Overall the decor was ok but could really use an update...and soon. My least favorite part about the actual cottage was that there are no bathtubs. We had our young daughter with us and this proved to be an issue.

The area was much more rural than I expected. There is essentially nothing to do other than nature walks/hikes and hanging at the resort. I did enjoy the water sports that they have available at the resort and their daily activities but beyond that come with lots of books or DVDs. There is a swingset/playground for kids which was a nice plus.

The resort food was ok. I liked it more the first few days but after nearly a week of eating the same things (because there are hardly any restaurant options nearby,) I was pretty sick of the fare.

Also, the check in process could use some help. Our room was not ready for nearly 2 hours beyond the already late check in time of 4 p.m. Later in the week saw the same situation happen to another party that arrived after 4 p.m. so it seems like a recurring issue.

If you are looking for a very slow time in a picturesque Northwest area this could be good for you but if you like having some activities or restaurants or getting a good value for your stay, you might want to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Confirm that your cottage has an lake view if that is important to you.

We just got home from our stay at the Alderbrook. Let's start at the beginning. As we were driving to it we realized that there is NOTHING around there to do so once you get there, you are there. When we checked in, we asked for an upgraded room (we were in a garden view) and they gave us a canal front room upgrade for free!
The room was very nice and I loved the window seat especially looking out at the water. It was my favorite spot. The only thing missing in these rooms was a fireplace.
They came a delivered us a plate that had "Happy 11th Anniversary" on it with two heart-shaped brownies. That was such a nice gesture and a great late night snack.
We happened to be there when it was pouring down rain which really limits what you can do there. We did enjoy the hot tub and sauna. It's in a detached building so we had to make a run for it in the rain on our way to back to our room. They do have DVD's to check out from the desk for free and that was fun to watch that at night.
The reason this property didn't get 5 stars is because of the restaurant. We ate there for breakfast and the food was good. We went and looked at the menu for dinner and were very disappointed in the choices. I understand it's a fancier hotel, but entrees that start at $30 are just too much. Especially for me since I don't like seafood, there weren't very many options. They need to have a bar menu available to all patrons at all times. I think more guests would eat dinner there. Luckily right up the road was a restaurant call the Robin Hood and they had more reasonable dinner options and it was really good food.
Overall we really enjoyed our night at the Adlerbrook. They didn't nickel and dime you for everything and we appreciated the anniversary delivery. We would stay here again, especially in the summer so we could do some of the outside activities!

Room Tip: The canal view room was amazing, but I wouldn't have wanted to pay the extra $75 for it. Luckil...

Thank you for celebrating your 11 year anniversary with us RoseWashington! We are so glad that you were able to experience our neighbor's fare at Robin Hood Restaurant; their sweet potato french fries are delicious!

While we are definitely a remote property, here is a recent article from the Seattle Times on things in the area to do the next time you visit us: http://seattletimes.com/html/travel/2021951082_alderbrookoutingsxml.html.

Stayed here last week. This place is definitely a hidden gem. It is in a spectacular location on Hood Canal. The rooms are comfortable and the food is excellent. This is a great place to get away and just relax.
