“Great staff and super room with a view”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

The view from our room (325) was super. Amazing watching the oyster farmers in the canal harvest oysters. Nice amenities. Lovely bed. The whole staff was so much fun....although the restaurant (which is not included in this 5 star rating) leaves so much to be desired. Where to start there? The surly waiter? The mediocre food? The overpriced wine list? I would definitely recommend staying at the Alderbrook, but look for options for dining

We stayed at Alderbrook for our Weddeing Anniversary the night of May 3, 2013. Gorgeous weather really made this place glow, but we imagined it as a nice getaway even if it had rained. Indoor pool, lounge with a great view (just like the restaurant), and a spa as well.

The ONLY reason I cannot give this resort a 5 star rating is because staff let a rowdy party go on in the beach and lawn area (where all rooms look out onto) way past 11 pm. I thought this was a bit rude. It was quite noisy. We had a small balcony, and were hoping to leave our door open for some cool evening air, but that was not possible due to the party below.

Otherwise we are hoping to return, maybe mid-week at some point before summer's end. The room was quite comfortable and chic, with tile flooring in the bath and an over-sized tub for two. Bed was comfortable and staff had even picked up on the fact that this was out anniversary, when I made the reservation, and left us heart-shaped brownies!

Next trip we WILL try the kayaks!

We just celebrated my birthday at Alderbrook. I've stayed there before, and can't wait to go back. One of the best places here in the Northwest. They have beautiful rooms, views, window seats to sit and watch the boat traffic and wildlife while having your morning coffee. I was treated special by all the staff and they left a nice surprise for my birthday in our room. I have to have GF food and all the wait staff gave me several options in both the resteraunt and lounge. The Salish golf course is not far from there, which you have to put on your list.

This was our 34th anniversary celebration. We arrived on a Sat. around 2 and were able to check in. We had a parlor canal view suite.. Spacious and nice. We especially liked the bay window seat. The weather was pretty rainy and cold so we liked sitting in the window seat with our glass of wine. Yes, big enough for both of us. The view was beautiful even when the rain was coming down.. When the sun did come out it was absolutely gorgeous! The deck was not very big to sit and relax but we went down to main lodge and had wine there too. The pool and hot tub were large, you could order food and wine. The restaurant was nice and the food delicious. My husband had a New York that was very flavorful and I had the crab linguini that was delicious. Everyone was friendly and courteous..I would like to come back in the summer.

My family and I just got back from Alderbrook. What a great weekend getaway! We live in Tacoma, so it was only an hour away but we felt like we were in another world. Even if you're traveling from out of state, you won't be disappointed.

Here are a couple of the highlights:

-There are nature walks/hikes right off property.

-A very nice indoor pool, covered by a type of greenhouse affect, which lets light in and keeps it warm. You can also slide doors open and it feels like your outside on the canal. Hot tub is right next to the pool and it is all situated on the waters edge.

-we had the parlor suite, which has an over sized deck right in the middle of the complex, great location. The room itself was incredible, with very nice bathroom and separate bedroom. Others in our group rented one of the cottages. These too were great. If you have kids, you can't beat the cottages lawn. My daughter loved running around with the other kids. And the parents could all just sit on the patios and relax while watching the kids play.

-fire pits through out the resort stayed burning. Some propane and some natural wood. All which seemed to be supplied by the resort. We brought stuff for s'mores and the kids loved it, and so did the adults.

- the golf course is a very nice course and only minutes away

-the restaurant on site was great. We ate lunch and breakfasts there, we cooked dinners in the cottage. The fish tacos were great! The cab cakes eggs bennidicts were incredible and the blueberry waffles were the best we'd ever had! Breakfast burrito was, to me just so so.

-we also took a walk down on the beach to learn about oysters. It was very informative and we shucked some oysters right there to eat.

- the dock also had kayaks and other water activities to do which were very fun.

All in all, I can't wait to go back! We will be back soon. Go to alderbrook, you won't be disappointed

We arrived 4 hrs. Before check-in and our lovely parlor suite overlooking Hoods Canal and the Olympic Mt. Was all ready for us. We had a great lunch and then did some hiking across the highway. There are multi shorter hikes. We also checked out a wine shop and very old and beautiful moss covered water wheel just down the road.
On our return there was a plate of chocolate chip cookies for my husband's birthday with a chocolate decorated plate. He was thrilled. For our anniversary there were rosé petals in a dish with Hershey's kisses from the staff with a nice note. They sure know how to so the special touches. With our dinner and all of the special occasions we were celebrating everyone incur party free dessert. The rooms were large enough for 4 of us to play games comfortably.
They have two house kitties that ride the lev actors, sun themselves on the luggage cart and in the lobby chair. Such a fun time we all had.

Room Tip: We were in the parlor suite on the third floor and it was lovely.
