Understanding that Twisp is a very small town, we didn't expect to find a truly outstanding restaurant for dinner....but we did find Tappis Italian restaurant.
It was NOT an outstanding restaurant, but, other than taverns, it was really the only option for dinner. It's a quaint little restaurant with the owner cooking by himself at an open fire oven. Everything is prepared right then and there by the owner, and you can't get fresher than that.
The menu is understandably very restricted for an Italian restaurant, but the food, while not memorable, was very good.....but for 5 star prices.
We would definitely go to Tappis again, just not with great expectations, and we will be ready for price shock. Nice folks working there. Pleasant in all regards.

Small property, the proprietor mans the wood- oven and is the chef. Focused on providing quality food, well prepared, with a personal touch. Love the pizza's (homemade dough) and polenta.

We return to Tappi every year while in the Methow Valley on our ski vacation. John Bonica is wonderful host and he hires great staff. The smells are intoxicating as you arrive. The wood fired oven cooks up lovely pizzas and caramelizes the tops of other dishes. The dishes are simple and rustic Italian fare, but done quite well. John loves good wine and keeps great selections available.

My only ding would be that, as a person trying to avoid dairy, gluten, and eggs, my choices are pretty limited. I ended up with the rib eye with salad (which was, by and large, delicious, albeit the raw side of medium rare), but I had skied a fair bit that day and I needed an appetizer/starter, but none were available to my limited diet, other than the salads, one of which came with my dinner. Perhaps some marinated olives?

Our daughter enjoys chatting with John at the bar by his workspace. John is very gracious and seems to really enjoy people, including kids.

On the board of evening "specials" was "Jack's Double". We asked the waitress what it was. She said it was a special, large hamburger, on a bun -- hard type -- baked just before the meat, with plenty of sauces. We saw one being delivered to another table, and it was large. We told the waitress we would like to share one, to which she said "fine". The burger could have fed a family of four. It was devastatingly good. We have previously enjoyed other dishes at Tappi's. I, personally, recommend the lasagne. The wine selection is also excellent, as was the special wine the night of our last visit.
