We have been here several times and always have a wonderful experience. It is family owned and operated and the members of the family are always so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are so nice - log furniture, quilts, coffee maker with real coffee cups, cork screw, real water glasses and reading materials . There is even a little bear on the bed to welcome you, and chocolates on the bed. In the nicely appointed bathroom is a rubber ducky for your bath. The towels are fluffy and plentiful, and there is even a little nightlight to guide you to the bathroom. The breakfast in the lobby is very nice. Sweet potato waffles are fresh made, and there are cereals, sweet rolls, muffins, toast, English muffins, and bagels. Across the parking lot is a little retreat with trees, tables, a glider, and hammock. A stream borders this area. There is a marvelous hot tub available, also. I recommend this place without reservation. It's not fancy but so comfortable, clean and welcoming.

the Trout Lake Motel is a superb little gem located in Mt Adams country, Washington. It is rustic and western in design but clean and modern. Great location and although there were no views of the mountain outside my window, drive about 200 yards further down the road and you will have a great look at it. I'd highly recommend this motel to anyone who is looking for a "western" experience. It features a common porch area with benches to sit on and there is also a place to relax across from the parking lot with a hammock and water wheel. Very nicely done and definitely worth going back to!

Friendly owner, very clean room. The location is absolutely beautiful. I went there in July of 2012 on a Mount Adams climbing trip. The South side climb trail is about 35 minutes away. You will not find a better motel in this area. The rate was also reasonable.

I went out just before sunset to watch the sun go down by the mountain. It was absolutely incredible.

Quiet, clean rooms with nice touches - comfy couch, fridge with a working freezer, great water pressure in shower, nice windows. Hot tub felt really good after hiking all day. Friendly staff, good breakfast.

Room Tip: Room 7 is furthest from the road and right next to the hot tub.

Wow, I booked the trip months in advance and had only seen the inn from the photos online. I did not find many places to stay in this area so I grabbed the room. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to see our room ready and waiting for us. The girl who ran the desk, Sarah, was so genuine and kind. She was nice enough to guide us to wherever it was we wanted to go and gave us tips on things to see such as the ice caves! Sarah loaned us flashlights to go on our excursion. The inn serves an awesome continental breakfast each morning , we never made it on time but could smell the waffels in our room! The inn has bicycles to rent and ride. Very beautiful inn, the rooms are perfectly cleaned, and beautifuly decorated. Very relaxing accomidations. The surroundings are indiscribable, you have to be there to take it all in, gorgeous, and I can't wait to go back! P.S . For those of you from warmer states, it was a bit cool there in July, it was not shorts and T shirt weather by my standards. Although tons of people were rafting! Love to try that next time.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are awesome!

We just came back from a weekend at the Troat Lake Motel. Troat lake is a charming small town at the base of Mt. Adams, Washington. The Motel features quaint bear themed rooms and even have 2 doggie rooms should you travel as we do with a gentle old black lab; ours was room 6. Upon arrival we were cheerfully greeted on a sunny day in Early May. The weather can be a bit colder usually 10 degrees cooler, atleast this time of year than Portland, near an hours drive away. Do take a moment to peruse the lobby as it boasts pictures and history of the area. There is even a buffalo head of brillo hair watching from the far corner. In the morning there is a wonderful breakfast which includes home made sweet potato waffles - highly recommend. The room itself is charming and loved the bed - so comfortable! Take a drive around the small town and meet the township. A very hardy and proud group of folks that even wave back! Stop in at the county store - she knows everything happening around town. If you enjoy horseback or river rafting there are several outfitters just down stream at BZ (next town). I also recommend stopping in at the only eatery in town (next to the only gas station in town). Its a Ma & Pa place who also make a fantastic and authentic Mexican meal, granted it was Cinco de Mayo - but wow! Afterwards may I suggest a cold one with ours friends at the Historic Troat Lake Country Inn. Our Hostess with the most-test was Mary who is a gem. One time we came before the entire town was in the front yard racking and removing debrees. We found out this was all performed for the youth of the town in preparation of their prom. OK? SWEET! This town and all mentioned are approximately an hours drive from Portland. A perfect weekend hideaway. 'Course, now having said that I'll never get reservations! Oh well... enjoy yourselves... you deserve it and these are truly excellant folks.

Room Tip: 2 doggie rooms available

I did the 2012 Trout Lake Run 10k and stayed at the Trout Lake Valley Inn (its other name) so I wouldn't have to drive an hour and a half to the starting line. As long as I was doing that, I brought the dog and husband with me, and we all had a great time getting out of the city.

Rooms are big. Ours had a bed, sofa, table and chairs, and a nice dog bed that our dog actually enjoyed using. There's a separate grassy area with a picnic table, plastic bags, and a dedicated pet waste pail for dogs to do their business or hang out. I had brought a tie-down and 20-foot lead, so the dog and I hung out in the sunshine after the run.

The owners are attentive and nice, and they make fresh sweet potato waffles every morning for any guest who wants one. There isn't any on-site food service outside breakfast, but there are restaurants in Trout Lake -- though they close early.

There is a hot tub on site, though we didn't use it. No pool or fitness center, but you're in the middle of a world of trails, rivers, ice caves, whatever you like. A fitness center would just be silly.

Room Tip: Bringing your dog of any size is only $15 extra per night.
