We have traveled to Europe & Mexico, Hawaii, Palm Springs, NYC, etc. etc. This "mansion" is in the middle of nowhere, sitting on a hillside overlooking what would be a desert if it weren't for the irrigation. We were shocked when we arrived at the desolate entrance to the driveway & would have missed it if we had not been watching for it. However, the accommodations belie the location. It was built in 2007 & it appears that no expense was spared in the construction of this 7-room B&B. Each room has its own European theme. All beds are king-sized. There is an outdoor hot tub which we chose not to use since we were 3 stories above it in the English Tudor room and our room already had a jetted tub for 2! Each room has a fireplace (The Italian suite has a glass-enclosed fireplace strategically placed between the bed & the tub, & this may be the reason it is the most popular of the all the rooms!). The in-home theatre with surround-sound located downstairs (near the Italian & Greek rooms) was great, as was their extensive selection of DVDs. However, we decided to watch DVDs from the comfort of our bed with down pillows where the TV is located right above the fireplace. This is definitely a destination where you would be going to "get away" from it all--very romantic, but no nightlife to speak of unless you want to drive more than 20 miles to Walla Walla, & I am not even sure what you would find there. We did some wine-tasting at the nearby vineyards' tasting rooms located within a 10-20 minute drive. There are more than you could ever want to visit in a couple of days. The food here was fabulous--do not miss the 8am coffee service with homemade pastries hot out of the oven, even if you must go back to bed & skip breakfast at 9! There is a pool that is heated from April thru fall...we were too early to enjoy it. The wind does blow here & quite a gale blew in before bedtime, rattling things outside & it definitely would have kept me awake. However, it thankfully died down by 11pm & I slept well on the soft sheets & pillow-top mattress. There is the historical Whitman MIssion about 17 miles east which we also visited & it was a worthwhile stop. Whitman College is also located in Walla Walla & this would be a very nice place to stay if you were visiting the college, although it's probably a 30-min drive. The dinner menu is a bit pricey, but not if you are comparing it to metropolitan restaurants: $30 entrees, plus salad, soup, dessert, drinks, etc. I would definitely return here.
