Cameo Heights Mansion Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 1 Touchet B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 29, 2010

We have traveled to Europe & Mexico, Hawaii, Palm Springs, NYC, etc. etc. This "mansion" is in the middle of nowhere, sitting on a hillside overlooking what would be a desert if it weren't for the irrigation. We were shocked when we arrived at the desolate entrance to the driveway & would have missed it if we had not been watching for it. However, the accommodations belie the location. It was built in 2007 & it appears that no expense was spared in the construction of this 7-room B&B. Each room has its own European theme. All beds are king-sized. There is an outdoor hot tub which we chose not to use since we were 3 stories above it in the English Tudor room and our room already had a jetted tub for 2! Each room has a fireplace (The Italian suite has a glass-enclosed fireplace strategically placed between the bed & the tub, & this may be the reason it is the most popular of the all the rooms!). The in-home theatre with surround-sound located downstairs (near the Italian & Greek rooms) was great, as was their extensive selection of DVDs. However, we decided to watch DVDs from the comfort of our bed with down pillows where the TV is located right above the fireplace. This is definitely a destination where you would be going to "get away" from it all--very romantic, but no nightlife to speak of unless you want to drive more than 20 miles to Walla Walla, & I am not even sure what you would find there. We did some wine-tasting at the nearby vineyards' tasting rooms located within a 10-20 minute drive. There are more than you could ever want to visit in a couple of days. The food here was fabulous--do not miss the 8am coffee service with homemade pastries hot out of the oven, even if you must go back to bed & skip breakfast at 9! There is a pool that is heated from April thru fall...we were too early to enjoy it. The wind does blow here & quite a gale blew in before bedtime, rattling things outside & it definitely would have kept me awake. However, it thankfully died down by 11pm & I slept well on the soft sheets & pillow-top mattress. There is the historical Whitman MIssion about 17 miles east which we also visited & it was a worthwhile stop. Whitman College is also located in Walla Walla & this would be a very nice place to stay if you were visiting the college, although it's probably a 30-min drive. The dinner menu is a bit pricey, but not if you are comparing it to metropolitan restaurants: $30 entrees, plus salad, soup, dessert, drinks, etc. I would definitely return here.

My husband and I spent one night there and fell in love with the place. It's absolutely beautiful, the hospitatlity was magnificent, and the rooms are immaculate! We stayed in the German Suite, but the owner gave us a tour of the other rooms before the other guests checked in. Each room has its own theme, and the pictures really do not show the fine details - plus the rooms are a lot bigger than what is pictured. For example, the German room has a secret loft with a comfie couch and table but you can't see it in the picture!!

There are so many extras there, I cannot even try to list them all...a private movie theater, hot tub, fire pit equipped with s'more excessories, ping pong table, chess table, piano, harp, fireplaces....There is such a romantic appeal all over the place!

And the food was the best either one of us had either had. In fact, we are planning to head out there again soon just for the dinner. I do not know the name of the chef, she was awesome! The food was fresh and wonderful. We ended up having breakfast brought to our room and it was absolutely amazing!!

We are planning on making a stay-over reservation every year from now on for our wedding anniversary. The owners were down to earth and just fun to be around!!

We enjoyed the dine in the room service and its was great, the fondue was to die for!
In addition for breakfast the mexican style quiche was phenomenal!
I would highly recommend for those of you in need of a complete chill to take 2 nights arrive at soak it all up. It proves a very romantic location for special occasions and just because.

We heard of Walla Walla's gourmet getaway package (2 nights accommodation and 1 cooking class of choice) and soon discovered Cameo Mansion to be the most attractive of lodging options. We entered the B and B feeling a little uncomfortable in such beautiful surroundings but we quickly learned there was no need. Alan and Deanne were very accommodating, very easy going, and eager to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Breakfast was different and delicious each morning and we enjoyed the option to have coffee delivered up to the room early. Dinner was also wonderful and we enjoyed getting to know Chef Penny who was more than eager to share recipes and cooking tips.

The only downfall was the distance of the B and B to downtown Walla Walla. We were torn at wanting to visit more wineries and wanting to stay behind to enjoy all the luxuries offered at the Mansion. Having a private movie theater to ourselves, with pop and buttered popcorn, was quite a treat.

Staying at the Mansion is expensive, so we felt fortunate that the price was reduced for the getaway package. I would definitely choose to stay again if the same opportunity is offered. As my husband put it as we were leaving.... "This is the first place we've stayed where the website didn't do the property justice."
