This museum has 3 floors of classic autos from the early 1900's to the 1980's. Most of the vehicles are from the 30's to the 50's. And almost all of them are in spectacular condition. Each car is labeled, some have in depth descriptions. There are also information stories on the walls.
The current special exhibition is on VW bugs. There are several dating back decades including the classic VW bus.

My favorite car was the Speedster in a stunning shade of red. I also loved the old Caddies. There are also a few very old motorcyles on display which are cool, as well as an area with race cars.

There is a small cafe up top where you can get a soda or hotdog. Admission is 14 dollars for adults and you get a small discount if you are a AAA member. Family memberships for one year are 72 dollars with your AAA card and give your family free admissions for a year.

LeMay in Tacoma is a museum of the American car. It's idiosyncratic; a personal collection augmented with special displays. It's especially good on the 1920s and 1930s and, if you pay attention, you can infer the development of American cars: cloth to metal roofs, open to closed, toys for the wealthy to general purpose vehicles for the mass market (such as it was in that era). There also were Corvette and Ferrari collections and some other European cars here and there.
The museum is an easy walk-through and it should pose no problems for visitors in and pushing wheel chairs. The interactive features - drive a race car simulator or slot cars - were crowded. That's good. They also cost a few dollars more after general admission and parking. If old cars - from the first 60 years of American motoring - interest you, it's worth a stop.

It was a rainy day and we were not sure what to do in the area... None of us have a particular interest in automobile, but we loved it!

From the first cars process to a brand new model, you'll be surprised by 4 floors completely full with cars. Even if you aren't a big fan of cars, you'll probably find something to like. An old horseless carriage? A NASCAR car? a Mustang perhaps?
There are a few interesting games for kids (build your own racing car) as well as nice simulators for everyone. Although you will have to pay a supplement for that (simulator and racing cars).

The building itself is really impressive and it has a deck with great view on the city. Enjoy!

Easy to find (just off Interstate 5) and when I visited on a Monday, it was very uncrowded so a pleasure to walk around. I got a discount for being a Canadian Auto Assoc member. The initial reaction when you walk in the front doors is "wow!". the building itself is amazing. The roof is completely built from laminated wood and plywood with metal cover on the exterior. The floors are polished concrete and sloped but easy to walk up and down. Beautiful collection of cars from the earliest (1908 was the earliest I saw) to the latest including Nascar, British, a gorgeous Tucker and hundreds of others). The story about Mr. Lemay is amazing and someone ought to make a documentary about his life and cars.

A new addition to Tacoma, LeMay - Car Museum. Not only does one get to be up close and personal with some of the most magnificent automobiles, the museum also has three different simulators. If you had ever wondered, what it would be like to drive a race car, here is your chance to get strapped into a real racing seat, and be at the controls of some of the fastest cars on the track. You will do it over and over again. [Watch your blood pressure] Sooo much fun.
