The LeMay American Car Museum is an amazing collection of automobiles (and some motorcycles) in an absolutely phenomenal building. The love of cars - cars of every type and vintage - is evident throughout. The museum curator has done an outstanding job of selecting (on a rotating basis,) a group of exhibits that truly highlight the vehicles. When we were there, Corvettes were being showcased. However, there were also an outstanding collection of horseless carriages (some manufacturers which we'd never heard of, and we love old cars,) as well as more contemporary cars from the 50's on into the 90's. Signage is wonderfully done, with fascinating tidbits of information about almost every car. Every single car had been painstakingly restored and were absolutely gleaming. Four floors of exhibits took us over three hours, and we could have taken longer if our legs weren't so tired.
The museum building itself is architecturally fascinating, and the west wall is entirely glass, looking out over the Sound. This was a wonderful experience.

Tacoma has some really good museums - LeMay is the newest and was our favorite. Even if you are not into cars, the building itself – shaped like a bottoms-up boat, made of wood with a great view of the harbor – is worth a visit. And the cars - there was something there for everyone from the early days of Henry Ford and before, the muscle car era, Nascar and the future for the automobile. There are simulators to give you a realistic feel of a Nascar race. The ramp design of the building made it easy to see everything. We had a light lunch there and it was quite good.

A very well thought out and maintained collection with something for everyone. Signboards and wall mounted video screens to enhance your knowledge as to how/why the cars received the invite to be there. A large, fast and challenging slot car track for 'kids' of all ages; (extra $3.00 fee). Very pleasant and helpful staff. On admission I was offered Senior, Veteran, Child, Student and AAA discounts. Upon departure a very nice young lady appeared to see if she could assist in helping me find everything I was looking for in the gift shop. TAKE THE TIME TO GO THERE. You will be so glad you did! :-)

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this museum. So many domestic cars, many that are important to the history of auto making. Also, an interesting NASCAR section with pictures, history, and of course, the cars!

My 14-year old son was hesitant to go (not a museum fan). But was engaged throughout.

If you enjoy cars, GO! Food at the cafe is good too.
