This georgious presentation of one of the best collections of classic cars is a must. The building is laid out to maximize viewing & photo opps. Mint condition gems run the gamut of the history of the automobile. Clean, classy displays, movies & mounted fact sheets compliment the cars.

The museum has a very convenient location just off of I-5. The new building is beautiful, and is a very goon design for a car museum. We really enjoyed the collections on display. There was a nice mix of eras and types of cars. I would recommend it for anyone with an interest in cars or history.

First let me say I am an avid car and car museum enthusiast and I did become a Silver Key member of the museum on my visit. That being said it needs work, severity over 2500 cars in the LeMay collection to draw from there were some poor choices such as multiple DeLoren's on display, multiple Chrysler 300's and other things that didn't seem well thought out overall. They have a great foundation for an incredible future but if I was running it I would have brought a more diverse presentation.
I must say one of the best things they did was a side by side 1942 Dodge, Ford and Chevrolet which magnificently illustrated the WW2 effect on auto production.
The lower levels were also not ready for prime time and need better lighting.
Don't take these critisims too much to heart because I am a veteran of auto museums, you are likely in for a great time and a beautiful facility and will certainly enjoy the museum for years to come.
I would have also expanded on some of the unique characteristics of the vehicles through either video or audio to really help immerse the visitor in the why behind the what.
So go,and go again, can't wait for them to use their outdoor space for summer events and will be there. I just wish they had someone like me to pull the whole experience together as a more coherent journey.

North America's largest car museum has been years in the making and was worth the wait. If you're a car buff, you'll be stunned with the collection. If you're not a car person, you'll come away with a sense for how the automobile fits into American history and culture.

The core of the museum comprises the best of the world-record auto collection of the late Harold LeMay, which includes rare and unusual cars - ranging from a Tucker, to classic roadsters, to the Flintsonemobile. But the concept has grown over the years beyond one family to include rotating exhibits from other collections centered around themes. This summer, for instance, showcases the "British Invasion" (classic 60s brit cars), "Alternative Propulsion", and the story of Ferrari. You really get an appreciation for the craftsmanship and design of these classic cars.

The museum's design and setting itself are part of the attraction. The LeMay is located right off I5, next to the Tacoma Dome. The abstract building recalls classic auto chrome design and completes Tacoma's unique skyline along with the Dome, Museum of Glass and the cable stay bridge. The building commands an incredible view of the Foss Waterway. The flexible interior is designed to show the cars to maximum effect. The site includes outdoor space for special events - car shows, drive in movies, etc.

For $14 adult admission, this is a great deal and worth a trip to Tacoma. Give yourself at least 2-3 hours. Or make a weekend of it and enjoy our under-appreciated city.

When you're travelling through Tacom on the I-5 you can't miss the new silver building housing the LeMay America's Car Museum. Opened on June 2nd 2012 its a fantastic facility showcasing some of the finest American classics and some European beauties too. The new facility allows for plenty of space to display each vehicle to its best and the three floors connect by way of easy ramps which themselves display even more cars. Best Freeway exit is 133 but 134 will do as well. The adult admission Fee of $14 is money well spent and don't forget the AAA Member Discount. Allow at least two hours to take it all in and longer if you want to try out the race car simulator. Its awesome.
