If you like old train station architecture you will love Union Station. It houses the Washington State Museum which is a big plus.

The city of Tacoma could have actually done something worth while with this beautiful piece of history and architecture like other cities have done with their old train stations. I have been to numerous cities that have turned theirs into little shops with one of a kind restaurants etc..it brought it TONS of revenue to downtown's. Instead this one has the cities court houses and offices - again what a waste of a beautiful space.

There are some beautiful pieces of Chihuly glass art in the windows..but sadly this is all that Union Station has to offer, there is no point in actually going into the building. In fact, when I went in it had been a few years and I asked someone who worked there (information girl?) where all the other Chihuly artwork was that had been in there she replied that there has "never been more than what you see" I know for a fact about 10 years ago there were a lot more pieces.

So, if you just want to go in and see the few Chihuly pieces (chandelier) and few you can see from outside on the street..don't bother unless you like courtrooms?

The old Union Station is an old landmark that is undergoing a big rennovation. It is the hub of railroad activity, and becons back to a time-gone-by. This will be a beautiful place when it is completed.

There is a lot of history in this building. It is no longer a train station, but part of the Federal Court House. Dale Chihuly has loaned a number of glass art pieces that are beautiful to look at.

This was a fabulous railroad station back in the day. Note: the current Amtrak stop is about 2 miles away. Used for events & wedding venues. Echo-y & the closest thing to a cathedral in Tacoma! Neat that the neighboring WA Historical Museum mirrors this in size, dome & appearance, so now there are TWO domes next to each other.
