Large park with lots of activity. There are many trails for walking, leashed dogs are welcome. Biking is allowed as well, but beware of cars driven by people sightseeing.

This place has a first-class zoo, a great aquarium, and a big park with hiking, a tea garden, views of the Sound. I have a membership! They are actively working in conservation and breeding. Visit the Zoo Lights in winter and see the polar bears cavort, and then come back and have a series of fabulous day trips through the summer.

There is a lot to see at the Park and it is relaxing to drive along 5 mile drive and stop off to check out the views of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. It's a quick and inexpensive ferry ride over to Vashon Island... or you can just get a table at Anthony's Restaurant and watch the ferry go back and forth while you enjoy good food with a waterfront view. The zoo is fun for kids and I have fond memories of what it used to be like to visit Never Never Land and the Fort when I was a young kid (that's pretty much gone now and they recently closed the little train that was operating there). Still a nice drive and a good place to take kids to Owens Beach or to have a picnic.

Like I said, A beautiful place to get away. A great view of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The trails were easy to travel and facilities were nice.

Point Defiance is a gem, a wonderful playground where you can party on the beach or jog among the forest patriarchs savoring the mossy silence. You can feed the ducks, visit ET the Walrus at the zoo, get married in the Japanese Garden, picnic right on the water, or relive the glorious days of the fur trade at Fort Nisqually. The Five-Mile drive closes to cars on Saturday mornings, so you can walk or bike without acquiring tire tracks on your back or choking on the exhaust. The bus runs straight down Pearl to the Park so go green and take the bus! Why go to a playground when your kids and climb and frolic through temperate rain forest? What are you waiting for? Get out there!
