We stayed here so that my 90-year-old mother could get a kick out of coming to visit us at our hotel. When her mood and the weather are both good, my brother brings her down to Ruston Way so that she, using her walker, can get a little fresh air and exercise. During our visit, the weather was rainy and cold, so she couldn't go for a walk, but she came to the hotel and enjoyed the view out the window: familiar sights from a different vantage point. We also made a very short trip down the road and had a fine and not-too-expensive dinner at Harbor Lights.
I'm told that in a couple years, Silver Cloud will open a bigger, more luxurious hotel in the midst of glitzy new attractions at the other end of Ruston Way. If the current property remains open, however, I think I'd prefer to come back here.
Some people complain about the noise from the trains; but to me, who grew up near the tracks, the sound is delightful. The whistle, the growing roar of the approaching train, then the diminishing rumble as the train rolls away--what could be more soothing?
My wife and I are fairly frugal, and we thought of staying at a budget hotel costing half as much. We're glad we stayed at the Silver Cloud instead.More
