Our first visit to the Silver Cloud Tacoma was a last minute decision to stay over in Tacoma rather than make a late night drive back to Seattle in a driving rain. We are very glad we made that decision, for we discovered a really lovely property that will be a destination for us again in the future.

The hotel is built over the water at the western end of the Tacoma waterfront. Years ago this was a zone of docks and warehouses and marine industry--now it is mostly parkland with some restaurants as well as this hotel. Every room seems to have a view--we were rather close to the front of the hotel and so could hear the trains across the road, but the sound was muffled and certainly no impediment to sleep. The largest noise was the rush of the AC itself. When it was off, the room was silent. And what a nice room it was--a king bed with nice bathroom, small refrigerator and microwave. (The only food service is the complementary breakfast--although fresh fruit was out in a basket all day--but a local restaurant chain offers delivery service, and there are several seafood restaurants just up the shore--walking distance in nice weather; not so much in heavy rain.) The breakfast service offered a generous choice of waffles, scrambled eggs, potatos, sausage, cereals, rolls or toast, fruit and fruit juice.) The dining area is more like a lounge with deep chairs and a nice view of the water. My other observations would be on the staff--they were very friendly and hospitable and clearly did their job properly, this was one of the cleanest hotels we've stayed at in some time. There is free parking next to the hotel.

Wonderful place. People are very friendly and helpful. Great views and very relaxing. Nice walking paths and places within walking distance to eat and drink. Only one distraction...the train. Get a room in the back of the building, or the train noise will spoil your day.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a view. The closest to the back of the building you can get the better in order to diminish the noise from the trains.

Overlooking the water, near restaurants, and very comfortable. We highly recommend this place to stay, Has a dock next to it and can watch people fishing as you soak in the tub or watch the eagles catching fish or the seals. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: 346 has the best views and a large jacuzzi.

We had a wonderful time, great staff and good breakfast, very well appointed rooms that were comfortable and cozy with an amazing TV and a toasty fireplace. Loved that it was so close to a wide selection of great restaurants.

Room Tip: book an ocean view premier and request the east side

Surprisingly clean hotel with great location. Great view and walking path along waterfront available right out side front lobby door. Rooms have view of water and sounds of rail and freighters can be heard with windows open if you prefer fresh air over ac........very modern rooms with large 55 in TV.
Close to shore line restraunts and Puget Sounds community and small city charm. Not far from major interstate
