“Great happy hour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014

If you can get there in time for happy hour (before 6:00pm) try to get seated on the deck on a beautiful summer evening and enjoy the awesome view of Commencement Bay and the great prices on the HH menu. Calamari strips are tender and comes with Asian coleslaw AND a Parmesan bowl. Yum. The chocolate eclair was the perfect end to the meal.

“Fabulous view, service, food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014

Duke's is located on the bay west of downtown Tacoma, with views of the working port area, Puget Sound, and Mt. Rainier in the distance. The day was gorgeous, with clear skies and sunshine. Food is inventive and fresh, drinks interesting, and service outstanding. The signature chowder deserves its reputation. Sample-sized cups of the five chowders are available; they are great to get a taste, but not be too full to enjoy an entree. One of our group ordered several of the samples along with a salad and was very satisfied. The lobster chowder was our favorite. Entrees and salads, in addition to tasting great, have creative names and complete menu descriptions. Just reading the menu was entertainment. Brianna was our server; she made good recommendations, explained the menu, remembered who ordered what, and timed the service perfectly. All the staff did a great job. We had a late lunch mid-week, so the place was not crowded and no wait to be seated. We had a lovely table on the deck, overlooking the water. An umbrella kept the direct sun in check. Free parking is in front. Prices were reasonable for the quality experience. I will definitely return!

“Great View”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2014

Great location and easy parking at lunchtime.
It was rather warm so a view table inside was perfect, but the food was very average and overpriced. Food was very bland and somewhat disappointing.

“Good but pricey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2014

First, the view here is awesome. Maybe their prices are helping to pay for the view.
Their chowder is very good but don't bother with a bread bowl. Your getting about 25% of chowder and the rest is chowder.
$13 for a bowl of chowder?? That's crazy. To save money, come during happy hour. A bowl is $9.95 then.
Had the halibut and fries. Halibut was a tad greasy and the fries were lukewarm.
Service can be very slow because they are always busy.
Sitting out on the deck is the best part but you do pay for it.
It's good but this only warrants a visit for special occasions to us. Too pricey to go to once a month.
Make reservations also or prepare to wait a long time for a table. Luckily, we made a reservation.

“Very mediocre and over priced”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014 via mobile

Went there for dinner after reading some of the good reviews. We have been to other dukes locations and enjoyed them ( Hawaii California). This dukes was a huge disappointment, food was mediocre at best. cod & Chips were small portions and not very tasty. The 8 oz pan seared halibut was ok at best but a tad over cooked . Service was mediocre, Would not recommend and would not return. Way overpriced for the quality of food. Save your money and go elsewhere .
