“Large conference center and golf property, not intimate, but a good solid choice in the area”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

A few cautions before I recommend this place:
1. There is no outdoor pool, and few of the rooms have balconies.
2. It is huge, with more of a corporate feel than I would normally recommend.
3. There are likely to be large events going on during your stay such as conferences or weddings, with accompanying noise levels.

All that said, here are the pluses:
1. Great location for visiting the waterfalls of the Colombia River Gorge.
2. Very pretty views.
3. A nice large front lawn with Adirondack chairs for relaxing and enjoying the view, and a fire pit at night.
4. An interesting daily falconry exhibit with a local rehabilitation center which features owls, hawks, falcons, and other birds of prey.
5. Comfy beds and towels.
6. Helpful desk in the main lobby that will recommend local hikes, activities, and sights.
7. The bar has very good food at relatively reasonable prices, and a few outdoor tables with lovely views.

In short: Recommended.

Room Tip: Be prepared to pay more for a room with a balcony, there aren't many.

Husband and I, sans kids spent 4 days at Skamania Lodge - excellent escape. Spacious room (although narrow) w beautiful view. Hotel staff esp @ check-in excellent. This resort is great for both couples or kids. Golf package allowed us to play one round with added bonus of next round for only $25. Great course - VERY narrow take lots of balls. Loved the tennis courts and onsite hikes around the resort - averaging a mile in length. It also has zip lines throughout the resort - didn't try but would next time with kids. Loved the Sunday morning yoga class on the lawn - great instructor wished they offered more yoga classes. Only negative was the food in the pub - skip. Hard to find good places to eat - the burger place on the highway was interesting - pie was awesome but again skip the mains.
Will be back next year to do some serious windsurfing.

we did the zip line course....it takes 2+ hours...seven different lines thru the woods...if you are afraid of heights do not do it! and wear gloves.(they dont tell you that) it was fun...if you are heavier like me...its a real workout. The guides were two great young guys. you have to walk a bit....at the end its the longest walk back up the hill to the Lodge....I enjoyed it very much

Mrsroseb,

Thank you for the nice review about Skamania Lodge Zip Tours (SLZT). The guides really know their stuff and do a great job and making the course fun and educational. Next time you’re here, stop in the River Rock and try some of our new menu items. You won’t be disappointed! We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Kind Regards,

There are a lot of very good things to say about the Lodge. But first, be aware that it is by itself in a National Scenic Wilderness area, so there is not much by way of restaurants or shops outside of the Lodge. If that is what you are looking for then definitely book at the Lodge. The headline here has to be the staff and the service; everyone is friendly and helpful and very genuine about it. No attitudes or begrudging service. Everyone seems to enjoy working there and to take pride in you having a good time. The overall atmosphere is very casual and laid back, not pretentious in the least. The accommodations are quite nice, clean and well maintained, and spacious. The scenery and view are spectacular. The common areas take full advantage of the views. The restaurant is very nice and the food is outstanding. There are a lot of activities on site - definitely go on the Zip Line!

Room Tip: There are larger suites, but some face the woods and are a bit dark. Try a room facing the river.

A stay at Skamania is an experience that transcends typical resort stays. You are immersed in the best the northwest has to offer: from forested hillsides, to a stunning view of the Mighty Columbia, to all of the available options to enjoy the great outdoors here, you will be rewarded for your trek to this beautiful location. The location is perfect: just far enough from the city to be able to breathe, yet only a 45 minute drive to PDX. The staff are fully invested in your experience, without being intrusive. This was my 15th time at this resort-- love it.

Staff was great, especially restaurant waiters/esses. Food wonderful. Ambiance relaxing. In spite of all that, it just didn't quite live up to the promise. Gathering around the fire pit had limited seating for about a dozen people and they were occupied by 2 families. the outdoor seating to watch the dusk settle in was filled. golf course was well maintained and tough if you don't hit it straight.

Room Tip: Get refurbished rooms. Unless you are on the top floor, riverview rooms are not worth it.

If I had to rate this hotel on the customer service that we received while booking the room they would have rated as a 1. We were put on hold for hours and never did get to talk to an actual reservation person. We talked to someone else. We also booked a room and were told it would have queen beds with a refrigerator in it.
Although the room was not correct the man that checked us in was great. He up graded are room and although the beds were still only doubles the view was great. We also got frig and a microwave. The rooms were decent size. The pool was great and my kids enjoyed playing.
We did the zip lines and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a lot of fun.
I feel that we had a great experience. It was expensive but worth it.
