The person at the front desk was so bad we left and stayed at another hotel. We will probably still have to pay even though we did not stay because it was non-refundable. We have stayed here 4 or 5 times in the past and liked it, but never again if we are forced to pay for the night we did not stay. We are reasonable people and not particular. The person at the front desk on June 14th 2014 at 6 pm was not reasonable and extremely rude.

This is an old creepy building with a thin veneer of polish. The staff is very inhospitable and will upcharge you for sneezing. They do not abide by their own policies but think you should keep paying for terrible service. Don't waste your money on this place. I did.

When you book a room in an historic building, don't expect cookie cutter amenities. I just love the feel of lovingly worn furnishing, Art Deco lighting and tall ceilings. The sky light gave the top two floors warm lighting.
I found the room large and comfortable, the bathroom was huge.

We booked the Montvale in Spokane through Hotwire. (Nothing against the Montvale.) However, using Hotwire was a mistake because it was advertised that we were getting a $203/night room at a 56% savings. When we called the hotel, they said we were getting a standard $129/night room. It took a half hour on the phone speaking to different levels of authority at Hotwire to finally be told that they would not do anything about it and that there was no refund. Period! This was a "bait & switch," and calculated mis-advertising. We will never use Hotwire again.

Room Tip: Hotwire is a company you should run from. There must be other more credible travel companies offerin...

There are only two reasons to stay at the Montvale Hotel : the interesting shabby-chic building and the centre of down town location. Note that there are zero services available

The rooms are large but the beds are very uncomfortable with absolutely terrible pillows, the street noise is unacceptable.

Ideal location if attending the Spokane Symphony performances overwise there is no reason to pay the very high prices.

This is a beautiful historic hotel. And the oldest hotel in Spokane.Built in 1899 as a hotel, then became a brothel, then apartments, remodeled and refreshed back into hotel, this is a truly one of a kind experience. A place with great history. Very nice clean rooms, high ceilings, awesome common area in the middle of the hotel. The GM of this property is very helpful, we were late with our check in and he still helped us rebook and have us a better room at a better rate. The parking here is not too bad, $10 surcharge for parking is inexpensive and convenient. The only hiccup we had was the front desk lady who was clearly on something, messing up left and right, no matter how high she was, she was still very sweet. I do think it was her second day or something. And one other thing you should know, the walls here are pretty thin and you can hear a lot of noise from the street and other rooms, but with a property this old, it's to be expected. And I actually think it's not that jig of a deal, I still slept like a baby in a very comfortable and clean bed. Next time I come to Spokane, I will not hesitate to book this hotel. Thank you to all the staff and GM for a great stay.
