Sometimes reviews are about expectations. A beautiful old hotel in downtown Spokane deserves better.

We were on the bubble between an average and poor rating. The slow service pushed us to poor.

We sat a good 15 minutes before anyone approached us with water and a basic greeting. The waiter wasn't all bad... just slow. The wine took another 10 minutes or so after ordering. When all was said and done, it took 50 minutes to get our first course after sitting down.

Two of three entrees were good but none was inspired. (The scallops and salmon were good; the mahi mahi was rubbery and lukewarm.)

Clearly in need of an overhaul. A little training for the waitstaff. A little -- or a ton -- of inspiration for the menu (hire Luna's chef). Stop wasting such a great setting. Please.

The restaurant is beautiful, the food appeals to those from basic tastes to the gourmet. We had dinner with our daughter and her fiancé and all four of us has wonderful meals. There is an extensive wine list and the service was impeccable.

we met friends for a holiday lunch on Dec 13. We recognize this is a busy time but were disappointed that we were seated in booth right by the bar and the service entrance. For a reservation that had been made more than a month in advance, this did not seem appropriate. In addition, we purchased a bottle of wine at the bar prior to lunch and when we took it to the table, the waitor told us there was a "corkage" fee for the wine. Obviously he had made a mistake, but that is not what I expect. The food was very good and we were "left alone", but I was dissapointed.

The Davenport hotel is a beautiful old hotel and the Palm Court is an excellent way to enjoy the ambiance. We always sit in the lobby portion of the restaurant to enjoy the beauty and elegance of the hotel. The expereince is very elegant and romantic and the service is usually very good. Unfortunately the food is only average and prices are a bit high but we still return every time we are in Spokane. Its not the place to go for an excellent culinary experience but is the place to go for the experience. We usually go for a glass of wine and an appie or for a desert and drink. The hotel lobby is magnificent. Take a little stroll through the lobby and second floor balconeys and peak into the ball rooms and meeting rooms. They are well worth a look. many pictures on the second floor of events from the early 1900's that remind you of the elegance of bygone times. I do wish the food was more memorable but apparently you can't have everything.

We chose to eat at the Palm Court for dinner after hearing wonderful reviews about the ambience and food. Rightly so, we have no complaints about the beautiful Davenport Hotel decor or the service which was very attentive. We don't mind paying for wonderful food so we were somewhat disappointed with the offerings overall. Chose the calamari which was delicious, but our entrees consisting of prime rib and the mahi mahi (special that night) were good but not outstanding. Overall you will find a good meal here but be prepared for it to be slightly overpriced for what you get.
