Red Lion River Inn
Ranked #23 of 46 Hotels in Spokane
Reviewed September 2, 2011

This was our second stay at a Spokane WA Red Lion. Last year we stayed at the Red Lion next to Riverfront Park. We decided to give the sister hotel a try, as it seemed a quieter, adult-friendly location.

This hotel is situated adjacent to the Gonzaga University campus. The plus side is that the walkways and grounds are shared and absolutely wonderful to walk. The down side - if it really is a downside - is that it makes the hotel very desirable for the student's families. It wasn't an issue, for us. Most of the younger kids stayed at the other hotel (more family-friendly pool!).

Check-in was slow. The staff were friendly, however. No elevators so, if you have mobility issues, let the staff know and they'll assist you with your luggage. It's only two storeys, so, it's no big deal. We booked into a King Premium room, overlooking, what I call, the "tanning pool". This is a small, rather shallow pool that seems geared more toward catching "rays" than actually swimming. It's, also, where the hot tub is located. If you want a regular pool, you need to walk to the far south-east section of the hotel. It's a nice pool, though, and is worth investigating.

Our room was typical "Red Lion". As a Premium, it was a bit larger than out last room. That was nice. It was clean and everything worked well. The a/c worked great! We were in Spokane during a heat wave and this was a big deal. The mattress was only so-so.

There's a standard bathroom. Fixtures were fine and everything was clean. Full-size tub.

The parking was free and convenient. The wifi was ok. Caught Happy Hour at the "Ripples" restaurant. Ok. Friendly server.

The location suited our needs. Less than 10 minutes to Northern Quest Casino. Walking distance to downtown and Riverfront Park. It was great!

As with our previous Red Lion stay, housekeeping was a bit of an issue. On our second day, of our three-day stay, we had to call housekeeping at 4:00 pm to come "turn" our room. While they sent someone promptly, they only did a cursory job, without restocking any of the amenities or doing any real cleaning. We tip. Everyday. If they'd have done a proper job, I wouldn't have mentioned it, here.

Nonetheless, it was a nice enough stay and, given the affordable room rate, it was worthwhile.

We stayed at this hotel on august 12. The room was a not ready when we arrived, they offered us a room ' of the same size' with one queen bed(instead of the 2 queens we reserved) and would put two roll a ways in for our children-they offered us $50 off which we felt was a fair comp. We arrived in the room and there was NO way two rollaway beds would ever fit so back to the desk we go -no apology nothing. We were given another room....forget the noise from the pool we were listening to a dog bark in the room next door for over two solid hours...we called the desk twice and my husband went to the desk the third time to be told that the manager wasn't in and there was nothing they could do.
Now for the breakfast....there was a lineup, they had rotten bananas out and minimal to choose from. This hotel was a big disappointment, I would recommend that you book the Holiday inn right across the street!

This is the worst Red Lion we have ever stayed in - and we have been staying at Red Lions for over 15 years! We used to love this chain but lately (over the last 2 - 3 years) we have noticed a decline in cleanliness and service. This particular Red Lion was the WORST! It was dirty in both our room and the public areas of this facility. The halls even had trash tossed. And the customer "service"? Non-existent! The little contact we had with the FD "manager" was rude and totally ingnorant. She screamed at my husband on the phone and told him to "do what he felt he had to do" to get our issues addressed but she wasn't doing anything. We even wrote emails to the Corporate office in Spokane, which by the way is just across the road from this Red Lion! And we responded to a survey they sent us. And we haven't heard word one in a way of a response...good or bad! They didn't even acknowledge that we had written to them let alone address our concerns and issues. We decided to go swimming at their indoor pool at the other Red Lion Hotel in Spokane, the Red Lion at the Park, and that pool was FILTHY! You couldn't even see the bottom of the pool and there were dirty, wet towels strewn all over the poolside and chairs and tables. Empty candy and chip wrappers and cans and so on. The we decided to "try" the Red Lion in Helena, MT and give them another chance. We have been staying there for over 13 years. And the same thing was true. The room SMELLED terrible and old and stale and it was also dirty. An inch of dust and cup marks on the window sill, dirt on the bathroom walls and I can't even tell you what stains were on the chair and comforter! White dry stuff that looked like people had been having sex on them! I was so disgusted and my husband was not going to stay. However we had no choice as the town was booked solid and it was late when we arrived. So we just went to bed with only the sheets...and the next morning got the GM in to see what the room was like. She brought her head housekeeper and all she did was give us some points on our RR club card for our "inconvenience"! We will never give Red Lion anywhere another chance!

I meant to book at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park, next to the Riverfront Park, with the nice swimming pool) but ended up accidentally booking here, at the Red Lion River Inn. They're less than a quarter mile apart. You can go to the swimming pool at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park if you're booked at another Red Lion, but it's still a hike. The personnel is very friendly - it seems like everyone in Spokane is - but I have to say that I wish they'd made it clearer that there are 2 hotels of the same chain so close to one another, because I'm sure I'm not the first to make this mistake.

This hotel was a bit difficult to find only in regards to it being in the city and the traffic coming in at 5 p.m. wasn't very helpful. But we did drive straight to it with GPS. We did go out of town that night to a casino a few miles away and the traffic at night was fine. Older hotel but the beds were nice.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights in early June. My king-bed room was spacious enough and clean. They were able to accommodate my wishes to be on the second floor.

The room had a small fridge, microwave, desk and coffee maker. The hotel looks older on the outside but the rooms seem to have been remodeled in the last couple years. Mine had a nice-size, flat-screen TV. There's also free Wi-fi.

I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant but I went down to the bar one night with my computer. Wifi was available there.

This hotel is just over the bridge from downtown Spokane. It's within walking distance of the Gonzaga U. campus. If you're in town for Gonzaga, you probably don't really need to rent a car.

Overall, this hotel is fine for a good price.

Stayed here July 9th. Good location with ready access on foot to downtown. Front desk staff very freindly, very helpful in answering questions regarding directions to local destinations. Room was on second floor (there are only two floors) with lovely view of river. Had lunch outdoors on patio of resturant overlooking river. Again, great service. Pool area could use some tidying up. Overall, a nice place for the price, and they don't charge for parking like their sister facility a block further down the river.
