“Really great re-do, but still reflects an old hotel. GREAT value.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2010

Hotel Ruby has the asthetics of a great boutique hotel. The renovations are cool, but there is no getting around the fact that the building is an old motel. The rooms and bathrooms are small but clean. The bed and pillows were super comfy. The flat screen TV was nice because it took up no space in my small room.
A couple of things to improve: there was no desk or desk-like furniture. I am a business traveler and when I brought dinner back to my room there was no place to sit and eat except the bed. The only place to put clothing was in the closet--there was no dresser. OK if you are only staying overnight but if you wanted to unpack some things it would be inconvenient. The "complimentary breakfast" was warm OJ and a bagel with cream cheese. Not exactly fantastic, but for the price of the room OK.
Overall the place is great. Perfect if you are coming to Spokane for a show or to do something downtown and you need an affordable, clean place to spend the night within walking distance.
There was a sign on the door that they are applying for a liquor license. Looked like maybe they are opening a bar onsite? That may change the atmosphere a bit.

I highly recommend Hotel Ruby. You don't often find a hotel at this rate that you'd want to stay in twice, but Hotel Ruby exceeded our expectations (and we are picky about cleanliness and comfort). A friend and I came to Spokane to see a concert at The Knitting Factory, so I chose Hotel Ruby because of the proximity, which is just across the street -- perfect! I didn't want to pay the rates at Hotel Davenport across the street (which is stunning and you should at least walk through it). Hotel Ruby was perfect for us. The room was spacious (we had a corner room with two double beds) and everything was fresh and fun in terms of paint, decor and linens. The beds are new and very comfortable, wonderful and plentiful pillows, and nicely appointed. Although it was a bit stuffy (August heat) the A/C worked great, so no problem there. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. It was just a gem. I would definitely go return if I ever found a reason to visit Spokane again.

Clean, Modern furnishings, Comfy Bed, Nice Linens and towels. Rooms are small, but they managed to fit in a small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. My main thing is cleanliness, and this hotel has all new carpet, new beds, new furnishings, and the bathroom was very clean. And I hate hotel beds usually, but this bed was very comfy. The continental breakfast was one of the better ones I have had. They had a good assortment of danishes, breakfast bars, granola bars, bagels, orange juice, coffee, and oranges. For under $70 a night, you can't beat the location, the room itself, and the breakfast. The staff were all very friendly. I will definitely stay here again. The bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and shower gel were all nice quality too. This hotel is just down from the Davenport. And a couple blocks from the The Post Street Ale House. They had the best fish and chips and coleslaw we have ever had. With the fan/air conditioner on you do not hear any outside noise, and this includes trains going by. Insulation must be good.

We stayed at Hotel Ruby during the busy Hoopfest weekend, and appreciated their personal attention and accommodating service even during a hectic time. Our room was newly renovated so a few minor amenities were still on order (towel racks and microwave), but the brand new bed was incredibly comfortable. Brand new paint, furniture, carpeting, towels and bed linens gave the room an urban chic feel. Very Clean! The only draw back was the "wild" and very loud activity at the bar right next door, that lasted late in to the night on the weekend, so bring your ear plugs. Overall, a great spot right downtown for a reasonable price. Oh, and if you bring a pet, it will cost you $50 for the length of your stay regardless of the number of nights and it's a block walk down to another hotel for a patch of grass for Fido to take care of his business. The management assured me they were working on a pet area, but not sure of the timeline.

I checked out after less than 15 minutes in the room. The smell was intolerable. Whatever they used to combat the stench of smoke in the room made it much worse. I tried another room but it was just as bad. Cosmetically they have tried to make this dump OK, but it's still a dump.

The Hotel Ruby is certainly a gem of a hotel located right in the downtown core. It is across the corner from the Davenport; everything is within walking distance. They have redone all the rooms and they are super, kind of art deco look in wonderful colours. What a great facelift to the whole hote! The beds and linens are new and excellent. The towels- what can I say about them- they are large, fulffy and new. I love a hotel/motel that has good linens and towels. The rooms are not large but are fine for 1 or 2 people- sure they have bigger rooms!. Lots of free covered parking. Front office staff were so friendly and helpful. I also found it very quiet. If in the city stay here for sure

Boy, what a great bed! There are three things that I love about excellent hotel rooms -- everything is clean, the bed is comfy, and they have an ice bucket (with a plastic sleeve or bag). They also gave me plenty of big white puffy towels. I love it when the towels are fluffy clean and fresh. I stayed in room 210 and it was HUGE. It has a nice little fridge and a microwave. An extra sink, separate from the bathroom. It is an older hotel and the bathroom reflects that in its size, but the water fixtures are new and water pressure is good. It has two little couches and a big plasma tv, so four or five people can watch tv comfortably. Or if you're wanting to watch from the big comfy bed, there is an arm that swings the tv out so you can turn it to face the bed. The bed was so comfy, I slept through the free breakfast they offer. Thomas Hammer Coffee was in the room and at the breakfast bar. Plus they had cereal and danishes and fruit. The location is great, the Knitting Factory, Bing Crosby Theater, and the Fox Theater are all a block away. There are also a number of bars and restuarants.

The room was a great value and I've rated the place as excellent because the only negatives are inconsequential: The shower knob is just like at my parents house, hot is cold and cold is hot. The room I stayed in needed a coffee table, and although the new paint job was pretty cool and very well done, one wall was clearly wallpaper that had been painted over and it needed some touching up. I'm thinking that they're still working on furnishing some of the rooms with new, clean, artsy furniture.

The last time I was on this property was about two years ago. The hotel had a different name and was rather seedy. With the new name came a new paint job, clean rooms and nice helpful staff. The only thing remaining from its old life is that funky half step at the top of some of the staircases, so watch your step! There is an elevator, ice machine and even a washer and dryer. So, this old hotel has had a face lift and I highly recommend it for those that want to save money, but want a comfy clean place to rest.
