“Downtown Spokane is Surprisingly Cosmopolitan”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Downtown Spokane is quite charming for a city its size. The streets are lined with beautiful, mid-rise art-deco buildings that are reminiscent of Chicago in the roaring 20's. The streets are clean and well manicured and there are plenty of fun shops, colorful bars and little clubs with good dance floors.

Even more amazing is the river park that intersects the north edge of the downtown district. The river is actually a raging, white-water rafting waterfall with incredible granite stone faces and pillars protruding from the crystal clear waters. I have never seen such a beautiful park in the center of a city in my life. The park often hosts outdoor markets and music events, so its always a fun place to check out. Overall, I'd highly reccomend visiting downtown Spokane if you're in the area.

“Have fun trying to avoid the bums”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

When you walk around downtown, it is like a gauntlet trying to avoid all the bums. They all sit around, waiting for your handout. Most of them are in their early 20s, and are able to work. They are all just too lazy to, and just want your money. It is not a pleasant experience to walk in the park near downtown either, because there are a bunch of lazy bums there also.

“Great if you love old architecture”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

I really enjoyed the downtown Spokane area. I love how the old buildings are still standing and in great repair. We saw lots of places on the National Historic Register. There seemed to be plenty of lively restaurants (we had trouble finding a place that could seat us for dinner) and lots of theaters, bars, etc. If you do, do NOT miss seeing the falls that are in downtown! I travelled through here so many times before and never realized what a beautiful sight there was to see. If you can, see them by both day and night!

“area on the upswing.”

The restaurants are improving with more places opening steadily. The shopping has also improved. Only drawback is the cost of parking.

“Parking costs keep me away.”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Parking is too expensive and meter maids too efficient - I've been driven away to suburban environs. I refuse to pay to eat, play,or do business downtown. Seems as if the mayor and city council has no business experience and drives people away!
