“Beautiful drive from Spokane north to the border. I have driven this highway since 1973. Be cautious around Deer Park.”

This is a very scenic and interesting drive. You will see wildlife, lakes and some higher traffic areas. Deer Park can be very congested at certain times of the day. For the most part, the road is very well maintained in the winter. Enjoy your trip and welcome to Washington!

Highway 395 is our go to choice when traveling from SoCal to Eastern Oregon and points between. Less truck traffic than the 5, mostly 4 lanes so you can make good time and vistas that are unavailable along the major north-south freeway. You can stop and visit Randsburg, Lone Pine, Big Pine, Independence, Mono Lake, Bishop, Bridgeport and many other towns and attractions. The lower half of the 395 is just a very nice scenic drive with the Eastern Sierras as a backdrop along the route.

This might have been rated higher but I had just finished trips from the PCH and the 101 and you can’ really beat that. It was okay, there were no major obstacles, but it is just a road and one we needed to take.

Spend the morning just driving north from Spokane, WA to see what on the route. Better than typical highway with snow mountain view and multiple lakes, large area of forest. However, it's still a Highway Route, not something worth planing to experience.

Along with the 99 this road was the original western border to border road. Starts out at the Mexican border and terminates at the Canadian border. Most of the road in SoCal is overlaid with the I-15. There are older portions that are still drivable between Escondido, through Temecula/Murrieta. 395 branches off the I-15 in Hesperia, and runs along the base of the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. Crossing into Nevada at Topaz lake continues North through Reno until entering California again. Be careful around Minden, NV (speed trap). We departed the 395 in Susanville and continued towards Bend via the 139. The views along the Eastern Sierra are great, even better when they are snow-capped. There is a lot to see and do along this highway. Makes a good option if you want to avoid the I-5. Less traffic and is 4 lane for the majority of the route to Reno.
