“Top Notch”

We were bike touring in the Pacific Northwest and stayed at this beautiful Victorian Inn which was everything one could ask of an elegant bed and breakfast. Friendly hosts who give full attention to detail to you: drove us into town for dinner and picked us up later, served an excellent breakfast. The room was lovely and bathroom expansive.

We were traveling in Washington and had no accommodations booked. we were tired, and hungry, with darkness falling, so we decided to go to the nearest accommodations indicated by our GPS device. We couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. The hostesses were so gracious and friendly. The house is spectacular, and our room (the Turret Room) was large and beautiful. The bathroom, which was down the hall, was large and well-appointed. To wake up to a beautiful view of the Sound and a lovely breakfast made us wish we had more time to spend there. Getting to stay here was a highlight of our trip!

After being constantly disappointed by motel chains (except Motel 6) I tried this small B&B in sleepy South Bend, WA. It's a tough climb (on a bicycle) up the hill to this fabulous Victorian mansion. We were greeted by the manager (I didn't get her name) and shown up to our rooms. They were beautiful - large, exquisitly decorated and furnitured. I didn't want to sit down until I'd had a chance to shower.

The manager let my daughter stay in a small room of her own but didn't charge us for it. Although there was no ensuite bathroom there was a dedicated bathroom for us across the landing which had an old claw-foot bathtub with a shower curtain around and a cute shower setup.

We used the house's clothes washer and drier which had more controls than a 747. I figured it all out with a little help. There was also a communual relaxation area shared by all the rooms on that level that had coffee and cookies. Everything is immaculately decorated, furnished, and cleaned. The entire house has free wifi. The manager provided us with an early breakfast as we had a long day's riding ahead of us.

I cannot recommend this B&B highly enough. I will count the days until I can go back with my wife.

I love old victorian houses and Russell House does not disappoint. It's location high on a hill above Willapa Harbor is perfect. The decor is very authentic and lovely. I stayed in the lilac-colored Russell room overlooking the back garden. Breakfast was delicious and I felt rested and refreshed.

We had a great return visit to our favorite B & B. The innkeepers are genuinely interested in our comfort and paid close attention to our restricted meal requirements. Wish they had an elevator!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Russell House in September. We were looking for a place to stay on our way south from the Olympic National Park area to Portland. This was a convenient drive part way in between.

The town of South Bend is not very large, although one of the major attractions (besides the Russell House) is the courthouse. We stopped by there on our way to check in.

We stayed upstairs in one of the rooms with a private bathroom. The room was comfortable and beautifully decorated in shades of burgundy. Both the bedroom and bathroom had lovely little touches in the room to make it more comfortable (robes, lovely decor, period pieces.) Outside the room is a lounge area with a wonderful machine to make coffee or hot chocolate early in the morning. There are several different types of coffee to choose from. We have stayed at B&Bs both on the mainland and in Hawaii. The breakfast we had at the Russell House topped them all. We started with a fruit, granola, and yogurt layered dish. Then, we were served a delicious omlette. Lastly, we were served a very tasty apple souffle with a wonderful sauce.

Cousins Beverly and Desiree provide visitors with a really great stay. The house itself is beautiful with wonderful woodwork throughout. If you have time, check out the book they have on view of the history of the Russell House.

  • Liked — Beautiful, historic home, great food, friendly proprieters
  • Disliked — Didn't seem to be too much to do in the town, but great place to stop for the night when traveling between northern and southern WA

The Russell House is a beautifully restored old mansion. The rooms are lovely, the food at breakfast was delicious. If you come to stay, it is so restful, and relaxing! There isn't too much to do around South Bend, but if you have a weekend, come to the Russell House and unwind.

The two hosts are very helpful and hospitible.

I would recommend this bed and breakfast.
