I am so happy we found Twin Gables! Kathleen and Steven are fabulous hosts. Twin Gables is as beautiful inside as the surroundings are outside! The food and accomodations are top notch. The bed was heaven and then to be able to drop our boats right out the back door in the water was too good to be true. We had one of the best paddling weekends, completely around the island (sorry dont know the name) west of Puget Island and marvelously restful serene evenings.

We spent a wonderful couple of nights at Twin Gables and spent our days hiking lovely trails along the Columbia Gorge at a park directly across the street that has a breathtaking vista of land, sky and water. We are definitely foodies and completely enjoyed eating a whole two pies during our rejuvenating escape to this hidden gem (no regrets!) I make an exceptional pie myself and these pies made by the proprietress were mouthwatering heaven - especially the fresh in season rhubarb! We went canoeing with their canoe out onto the calm waters of the waterway directly out the door. It was a memorable anniversary with great hosts who made us feel completely comfortable and served us delicious breakfasts each morning and even a special request dinner our first night.
We can't wait for our next vacation at Twin Gables in this peaceful bird watchers haven!

Stevan and Kathleen are excellent hosts and very accommodating. Stevan helped load the kayaks, and Kathleen fixed outstanding meals with fresh ingredients and wheat-free entrees for me. I highly recommend requesting dinner while there. Twin Gables is beautiful and comfortable and we loved the location. We left our kayaks on the dock on the Skamokawa River and could go paddling on the river and two nearby sloughs hassle free. We explored the charming, small town and Vista Park across the street. Once we arrived, we didn't have to drive any where. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Twin Gables is an annual pilgrimage for our small gang of friends. The back yard's dock has a couple of canoes. I can paddle solo up the tidal Skamokawa Creek, or double up to explore the slough or test the waters of the Columbia. The Inn itself is fascinating architecturally and the couple who run it have become more friends than proprietors. For us, Twin Gables is a cherished place.

We first saw Twin Gables in an unusual manner: while paddling our rented kayaks in a creek just off the lower Columbia River. This was a good thing, since the front side of the house (what you'd see from the road) does not have a sign on it. When it came time to check in, I hesitantly walked up the porch steps, where the welcome mat provided confirmation that I'd come to the right place. Yeah, this place is low-key. I like that.

Hosts Steve and Kathleen greeted us and gave us a preliminary tour of this fascinating house that originally was TWO mirror-image houses--including one that had sunk down and was slightly askew! Ten years of loving work (almost all done by the owners) has resulted in a most charming and comfortable inn. Our room (with private bathroom) managed to be large and cozy at the same time. A quick flounce onto the bed told me it would nurture my dreams with just the right blend of support and give.

Nights in the little town of Skamokawa pass peacefully, and we awoke looking forward to a hearty breakfast. We stayed two nights, and both breakfasts included carefully-selected ripe fruits, eggs, meat, fresh pan-fried potatoes, and toast. I won't spoil it by saying exactly what we had--it was different each day--except to say that we relished every bite. Kathleen's cottage bread instantly became one of my favorite breads; toasted and buttered, its crackling crust gave way to a toothsome, slightly chewy, moist interior. We added the optional dinners, which were also wonderful. (Suggestion: buy one of Kathleen's pies to take with you. The slice I ate just may be the best pie I've ever had.)

Twin Gables has its own large dock on the water, so if you bring your kayaks or canoes, you will especially appreciate this place. That nourishing, perfectly-cooked breakfast will fuel any active person for hours! Or...just curl up with a book and look out the back doors now and then...you'll probably see a great blue heron just a few steps away.

My husband and I stayed at twin Gables for an anniversary celebration. We were met with the kindest hospitality from the proprietors and impressed with the lovely room and decor of the establishment. We launched our kayaks from their dock and enjoyed the serenity and scenic beauty of the area. A special touch of generosity was the bottle of wine and two glasses awaiting us on our return from kayaking as a special anniversary surprise. Sitting on the veranda, being served freshly brewed coffee and enjoying a fabulous breakfast at our convenience were more than we expected. Truly a wonderful weekend getaway destination!

My husband and I just took our second trip down to The Twin Gables B & B in serene Skamokawa, Washington, and this trip was as pleasant and relaxing as the first one! We enjoy canoeing and this is a great area to do so (we have our own canoe but if you don't, they can be rented at the town center five minutes from the inn). If you like to walk as I do, there is a beautiful deer preserve very close by where one can wander and some hiking trails in the area that skirt the nearby Columbia River and its tributaries. Also, there is a state park is located right across the road from the inn, where there is a beach.
The rooms at this B & B are very nice, clean and tastefully decorated with antiques, and the breakfast served by our delightful hosts was delicious!
The area is quiet but full of natural beauty, so if you're looking for that, enjoy a weekend getaway at the Twin Gables in Skamokawa.
