Red Caboose Getaway

Even if you are not a train enthusiast, this is an experience worth enjoying. Olaf and Charlotte are very nice hosts, the caboose was roomier than most hotel rooms, and the little touches were tasteful and a piece of history. I don't remember the last time we had a four course gourmet breakfast. It was very nice, and despite lots of wonderful food, was not overly heavy. Dining in the lovely dining car was wonderful, the service fantastic.

We couldn't make breakfast the first morning because we had to catch an early ferry to Victoria, so we received a lovely sack breakfast for the road. Very nice touch.

All in all this was a wonderful experience. We'd do it again.

Somebody who never stayed here intentionally brought their rating down because they don't accept four year olds. Sheesh, can't you be the owner of a property and have rules? What's up with that? I for one was glad there weren't a bunch of little ones around. We love children, but this wasn't that kind of weekend for that.

Stay here, enjoy a weekend together without the kid(s). You deserve it.

Room Tip: The Bouillabaise at the Dockside Grill was excellent, and what a great view.

We enjoyed our two night stay here very much. The Orient Express on track #2 is great. The breakfast was fantastic and beyond our expectations. There are many interesting things to do in the area including walks on Dungeness Spit and in Olympic National Park.

Room Tip: Orient Express on track @2

We just came back from a great 2 day get away to the Red Caboose. Our stay could not have been better. Olaf and Charlotte were gracious hosts. The breakfasts were to die for (all local food, fresh roasted coffee and a little desert with breakfast no less!!). We stayed in the Grape Escape and it was comfy and cosy to say the least. Nice big soaking tub with plenty of hot water. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the place was equally quiet at night. Lots of things to see and do close by.

We would go back in a heart beat!

We spent a lovely weekend in June in a bright red caboose on Track 2 at the Red Caboose Getaway just outside of Sequim. A comfortable bed, a fantastic jacuzzi tub, and a 4-course breakfast that was "to die for"! Charlotte and Olaf run the place and are a lovely couple with tons of knowledge about trains (Olaf) and a fantastic way with food (Charlotte). There is a pond in the center of the property with ducks, lots of birds fluttering around everywhere, and you go to sleep to the sound of frogs chirping in the pond. We can't wait to go back and try another "track".
Oh, and after a breakfast of Charlotte's design, you won't need to worry about packing a lunch during your day trips to Hurricane Ridge, Port Angeles, or a wine tasting tour in the area. Breakfasts are served at 8:30 in a real vintage dining car with white linen, china and crystal.

Room Tip: Take a look on-line to choose your track (caboose). All are of a different theme - Grape Escape, Wes...

We did a friends get-away to the Red Caboose in the first weekend of June. It was an interesting experience. We had the circus caboose, the western caboose and the Lavender caboose.
We were booked for 2 nights.
The caboose's themselves are very nice and the amount of effort put into the restoration is amazing. We had a comfortable sleep in a very peaceful environment. The grounds could use a bit of a spruce up. A couple of benches near the duck pond and couple (useable) picnic tables would be a boon. Also a communal fire pit for the evenings would be very welcoming.
The breakfast served each morning was amazing. Baked banana with yogurt and toasted almond, a baked egg dish, warm fresh baked bread, tea and coffee and fresh dark chocolate dipped mint leaves. The service was wonderful and welcoming. The dining car could use a clean up of the windows and a bit of a spit polish to bring it to the top notch standard it deserves.
It is a very sleepy town and there is not much to do unless you drive to Port Angeles or Port Townsend. The Red Caboose is an interesting getaway, and it is nice to do at least once, but I would probably not return.

You almost need two reviews for this property: One for the sleeping accomodations and one for the most spectacular breakfasts you'll get in a B&B.

Each of the eight cabooses (there's more in the works) is themed to a different style (Western, Circus, Orient Express, etc.). Separate from each other they surround a very serene duck pond which, during our end-of-May visit, was loaded with little ducklings. Other songbirds add to the appeal of the surroundings as well as the chirping of the frogs at night. The circus caboose (our choice) came complete with a jacuzzi and plenty of space to move around. Room appointments include TV/DVD and an amazing attention to detail and accuracy. Only a couple units have showers so if that's important make sure to request one.

Breakfast: 5-star doesn't even come close! All fresh and responsibile for us spending an extra night. Your host and hostess put out the mostest. We had our choice of coffee, tea, or a variety of flavors of hot chocolate (went with caramel but heard the peanut butter was great). Juice was a choice of orange/mango or pomegranite/berry. "Appetizers" included orange pull-aparts and a spectacular grapefruit (which didn't taste like any grapefruit I've ever had). This weekend's main course was a sausage-stuffed Fuji apple on Sunday and then a "hobo bag" on Monday. As if that wasn't enough desserts were chocolate-dipped mint leaves and mini-baked Alaskas. Where else does this happen?

No pets (the proprietors'dog Pickles is a pleasant substitute) or children under 12 insure that the grounds (located a couple hundred yards from the spur road into town and next to a residential area) can be enjoyed by the adult guests. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Room Tip: Turn off main road to Coyote Ln (in front of realty agency and Chamber of Commerce office).

A fantastic breakfast , in a railroad dining car, follows a great stay in a themed caboose.
I look forward to my next visit.
