A big restaurant for tiny Roche Harbor, San Juan Island. The deck overlooks the marina and is a wonderful place to go for either drinks or dinner. I liked the place so much I went there three times in two weeks. For drinks, both the Mac and Jack's African Amber and the Ninkasi IPA are on draft and excellent, as are the Mojitos. For starters, try the hummus plate or the prawn and avocado cocktail. Avoid the calamari which is over-breaded. For dinner try the Maytag blue salad, the lamb sausage pizza, or the Huckleberry BBQ ribs (where a half rack will be enough for all but the hugest appetites). For dessert, the carrot cake is first rate, without too much cream cheese. The service is excellent, and while they all seem to be from Romania, their English is faultless. After dinner wander over to the main dock and watch the Colors being retired at sunset, a local Summer tradition at Roche. While it's not haute cuisine, and neither New York nor Paris are nervous, you will enjoy a five star experience at this idyllic spot. I would recommend it for any occasion short of fast food bargain hunting.
