Rain Forest Resort Village

This is a property where location is everything. There are few alternatives and the view of Lake Quineault is incredible. On the other hand, the rooms are noisy, the TV gets 4 channels, ice is available only in the resort office which is only open from 9 AM to 9M, there are no phones in the room, and no air conditioning. Rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable.

We stayed at the Village Inn, second floor, and we had a beautiful view of Lake Quinault. The rooms are small, but the window to the lake is huge which is perfect. We had dinner at their restaurant and we were very pleased by the food and the people serving us, contrary to the restaurant experience we had at the Lake Quinault Lodge at lunch which was awful. Quiet, close to trails and Big Cedar Tree, lots of geese on the lake and a huge grass lawn for the kids to run. The only downside is that the walls are thin and you can hear the bath fan from the other rooms or the other guests climbing up the stairs, but it didn't bother us since we stayed for only one night. Overall a good experience, I would come back and stay a week here!

Stayed one night in a two bedroom cabin by the road - nice.

The cabin is a basic box with large bedroom, gas fireplace for heating, nice small deck to hang out on and look at the view of the lake, well-stocked store and reception almost next door with the Salmon Restaurant across the street serving meals from breakfast to dinner.

Our style is to drive around and end up wherever we end up and rely on on-line sources a lot and since the historic Lake Quinault lodge was booked-up and we were tired of old historic buildings having stayed at the Timberline at Mt. Hood a few nights before, liked what we heard and read about the Rain Forest Resort.

The room is very basic and nothing fancy but we appreciated the room and space. The porch was great for some privacy and space from the road below. The restaurant was good and we had a couple of good meals there. We're from the city and are used to car noises which pretty much stops late at night anyways.

For a quiet relaxing quick visit the Rain Forest Lodge had everything we needed.

Wow, was really difficult to set the temperature right in my motel-type room: it was either way too hot or way too cold (uncalibrated old-fashioned thermostat controls electric heat). So making lemonade out of a lemon, in the morning when I woke up sweating as if in a sauna I opened the front door to the beautiful mountain lake sight and fresh air, and the set up the provided room fan in the doorway. Heaven! Kinda like being outside in a hot tub surrounded by snow!

The inn location is great, right next to all the rain forest hiking trails. Wash your shoes at one of the outdoor spigots. Btw, the shower stall was modern but the bath vanity was old and gross. The room itself otherwise was fine.

The hotel is beside beautiful Lake Quinalt. It consists of a mixture of housekeeping type cabins and more traditional hotel-motel type rooms. There are lovely views in every direction, with both easy and challenging walks in a beautiful rainforest, and quiet spaces to just enjoy. The people at the resort are very nice, extremely helpful, and the restaurant has very tasty food. This is not a luxurious place, but clean and well maintained. We stayed in one of the motel rooms, and it had a great view, as well as a comfy couch and desk for working. I kept missing them, but others in our group saw a large herd of elk just down the road. We had a great time.

Room Tip: I don't know if all the rooms have a lake view -- it would be worth asking for.

I think this hotel has a lot going for it, chief among these, the superior lakeside location, also close to 2 champion trees, some great family friendly trails leading into the lush rain forest and to modest but still lovely waterfalls. The mercantile / reception area is well stocked with sundries (groceries, toiletries, wine & beer and souvenirs). The adjacent restaurant served some VERY tasty simple fare (get the salmon or the bacon scallops, mmmm) and the service was warm and thoughtful and fast. When we were there it was only open 4-9pm so we had to breakfast at the LQ Lodge a mile away. The bed we had was ok (but it took up so much of the tiny rooms). I did like that we had 2 rooms so our toddler could sleep earlier, but we were on the ground floor by the stairs #105, and sadly it was like herds of goats every so often. I will say that the staff was friendly and helpful...

However, all this does not make up for the overall lack of functionality and well to put it plainly, style or charm. The Village Inn rooms are tacky, full of wood paneling, 80's bedding, and nasty plush carpeting. The furniture is cheap, the bathrooms very old and not too functional. The place was surface clean, but just barely and overall it is just so run down & out dated that no amount of clean can help.

The cabins upon a quick look-see were in much the same shape- however they offer a bit more privacy and varying locations and vantage points. However keep in mind that the whole place is traversed by a road and with a restaurant right in the middle of the lake shore even the cabins feel quite exposed & public. There are campsites as well as public restrooms & showers for these and I sort of wonder if they weren't a better option?

Anyway what I wouldn't give to see this place given a classic simple rustic upgrade - hard floors, rustic furniture, clean linens, one huge local photographic image on the wall (not 14 4x6 cheap ones). Some industrial lighting and fixtures, and most importantly some local native art / carvings.... If this place were bought by the right entity, it could be amazing and well worth the investment...

Room Tip: Don't pick 105 in the Village Inn, it's under the stairs

We arrived at the resort just before dusk on Friday of New Years Eve weekend. We were hoping to find a quiet place to restore our spirits and we weren't disappointed. The cabin we checked into had all the nostalgia of the past, rustic, yet perfectly maintained. That night we fell asleep in a dreamy bed listening to sounds reminiscent of a hard rain outside (many of the cabins are situated next to a running stream). We were a stone's throw from the lake and enjoyed an unobstructed view of Lake Quinault and the Olympic foothills dusted with first snow. Our cabin had a completely furnished kitchen, a fireplace, as well as a really nice jacuzzi tub (wish we had the same one at home!). A covered porch from which I could paint made our stay special. We didn't need to leave, but there were trails into the stunning rain forest 150 yards from our door, as well as a general store for anything we had forgotten (candles, chocolate, champagne, and breakfast staples) and the resort's restaurant (The Salmon House) blew us away: the architecture, decor, cuisine, and staff were beyond our expectations! A perfect getaway! Thanks to the owners Dave, Don, and Joe and the staff. Well done!

Room Tip: The staff was very helpful in their recommendations
