“Historic Lodge Retains Grandeur”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

It is hard to improve upon the magical setting of staying in the Quinault Rain Forest, the ease of trail access, and the stunning views of Quinault Lake. Thus, location is the compelling reason to stay at this historic lodge. That said, the hotel could certainly benefit from improvements in service (simple matter of training not lack of friendliness or willingness) and maintenance (we stayed in new rooms (higher price) but given the older rooms and public spaces (no excuse not to replace ping pong paddles) we see plenty of areas for improvement. We were sorely disappointed that the Lake had been closed to all but swimming use and do feel that the rates should have been reduced or other offers made to compensate. The food is quite good and the portions are ample enough to share.

Room Tip: Choose one of the recently renovated rooms.

My Uncle rented the whole boat house for our family reunion and used his credit card to pay up front. when we checked in the completely clueless girl was asking everyone for a credit card to check in and informed me and several other members of my family that there would be only a penny hold on credit or debit cards. come to find out the that evening there was $550 charge to my bank account so I immediately went to front desk and asked what was going on and they couldn't explain it. then they tried to reverse and ended up charging my account another $150 then was told they would refund everything which they did only to turn around the next morning to find out there was another charge for $700 again. long story short my to 2 day vacation was ruined by this as I was spending my time at front desk and on the phone with my bank to get it straightened out. Also the food is way to high priced for what it is and don't go to dine with a large group because gratuity is 20% and they know there getting paid by default so they don't work for their tip and service is lousy!!!

Room Tip: don't go to boat house room's need's to be updated badly great view but not for the pric...

As others have said, the location is amazing. With so much potential, it's a shame that it's so poorly managed. "Thanks Aramark". We staid in one of the fire place rooms. It looked really nice in the photo, but the picture must be old because the rooms are pretty run down from no maintenance. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. Both were good, but kinda pricey. When we got the credit card bill for our stay there was a charge for 20% gratuity on each meal. We had left a 20% cash tip, so we called the lodge to straighten it out. After several tries we gave up and called the bank. The so called lodge manager was always to busy to talk to us or call back. On a bicycle ride around the lake we spotted two very cute places on the north shore that had cabins. I would stay there instead because this area is amazing as well as the 33 mile bicycle ride around the lake. Please take note that the native american reservation has shut down the lake to all uses except swimming.

Enjoyed an overnight here with family. We had two rooms, one in the main lodge and one in the boathouse. Both rooms were comfortable and clean. The lodge has a great lobby with a large fireplace where people gathered throughout the day to relax, read, play games, and enjoy the fire. The restaurant had good meals for both dinner and breakfast, and the service was both pleasant and timely. There are trails to walk and a beautiful view of the quiet lake. All in all a great place to visit and enjoy the Olympic Peninsula.

Room Tip: We needed a room without having to walk too many stairs. The first floor of the lodge only requires...

This lodge is in a stunning location perfect for visiting this beautiful park. Sitting out on the terrace on a sunny August evening looking over the lake was sublime. For a hotel with so many advantages how do the management get it so wrong? The first problem is an apparent lack of investment in the property. We stayed in one of the riverside rooms. It was perfectly comfortable but let down by a poor level of maintenance. We also saw one of the main Lodge rooms. Both were of a standard that was acceptable in the mid-70s not in 2013. The main lodge has a super hall area. Unfortunately there was a rather unpleasant smell that spoilt the atmosphere. Surely the Lodge management could have sorted it out?

There is also a lack of investment in the staff and their training. The following exchanges were typical of how we found the Lodge staff. Asked what sort of sodas were available, the bar person said that she didn't know they just "came out of the machine". She made it clear that she wasn't going to try and find out. At dinner the food was average and the service poor. We asked our server why we hadn't been given bread. Rather than admit that she had forgotten it, she we said that it was our fault because we hadn't asked for it.

Despite all of this and the fact that you will be paying far too much for staying and eating at the Lodge, I would still say go and give it a try. The location alone makes it worthwhile.

My husband and I had stayed here years ago and had a great experience so we thought we would return with the kids (teens). We had a King Lakeside room. The room was nice and we enjoyed having the small balcony overlooking the lake. The king bed was wonderful. The sleeper sofa - not so much. When the sleeper sofa was pulled out, you could not walk past the beds (they touched). Also the sleeper sofa bed was so uncomfortable that my son opted to sleep on the floor instead. That is pretty bad for him as he is a scout and can sleep almost anywhere. Soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner were in wall dispensers which we liked. Restaurant was significantly overpriced for the lower quality food we had. We would not return to the restaurant again.

We were on a Saturday motorcycle ride up to Lake Quinault . Plan was to eat a sack lunch. Unfortunately it poured down rain. So we headed to the LQL for food and warmth. Glad we did! Really cool lodge with good views from the restaurant (even in the overcast). I had clam chowder which was very good...thick and meaty. I paired this with a spinach salad which had a great dressing and dressed with thick chunks of crisp bacon...yum. Everything looked good that was coming out of the kitchen and we appreciated the big pot of coffee that the waitress left on the table. Will go back!
