“Our favorite National Park Historic Lodge”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We have stayed in most of the historic national park lodges in the western US...and this is now our favorite! Great ambiance in the lobby and outdoor areas, old-fashioned but comfortable rooms. Awesome hikes are immediately accessible from the lodge. Lovely views from the Roosevelt restaurant.

Room Tip: We have stayed in most of the National Park Lodges in the western US...and this is now our favorite...

I can't add much to what other people have said. Beautiful location, very relaxing and romantic time. Food in the restaurant is good but pricey. The best part was the ranger-led tour, offered by the lodge (you don't have to be staying in the lodge to take it). Our ranger recommended the book "Across the Olympic Mountains -- The Press Expedition, 1889-90" by Robert Wood. I've almost finished it and it is definitely worth a read (out of print, but you can probably find it in a local library).

Room Tip: We upgraded to a fireplace room, which was definitely more spacious than the main lodge rooms, but l...

My daughter (now age 14) and I visited in May 2010, May 2011 and September 2012. She's had enough but I would do it again, in a minute. Nice accommodations and good (if pricey) food, with a gorgeous lake and hiking trails right outside the door. Phone, TV, and Internet service are limited, but so what? A general store across the road has snacks and sandwiches. We stayed our first two years in the Boat House, which was perfectly OK but the Lakeside room on our last trip was newer and nicer. We also enjoyed the pool and renting a kayak. And don't miss the sweet potato pancakes at breakfast. (Try to get a window table so you can see the birds better.)

We enjoyed our stay here. We were disappointed we had to move from our Lakeview room because there was no heat in the building. We were reassigned to a 2nd floor room in the Lodge (no view), and steps are difficult for me. But we were given vouchers for breakfasts for the two mornings we were there. We had a Travelzoo voucher, and we received a refund because the Lodge room was less expensive than the Lakeview one. I enjoyed the swimming pool - nice and warm. The restaurant was good but quite expensive for dinner. We found the Salmon House, about a mile up the road, was even better and much less expensive. Breakfasts at the Lodge were reasonably priced and delicious. This is a great place to come and relax. We had beautiful weather and enjoyed going up to the Hoh Rain Forest and exploring other roads.

My first visit to a rainforest, wouldn't have been the awesome experience it was without the extraordinary guidance in the Rainforest Tour provided by Roger, from this lodge. Informative and funny, Roger took us through the history of Quinolt, the tribes, the construction of the lodge itself, besides giving a wealth of information about the rainforest and the Eco system .

My husband and I purchased a Travelzoo voucher to stay there. We made reservations for the Fireplace room, but due to a gas leak, we stayed in the renovated Lakeside room, 2nd floor. I believe that it was a better room with a veiw than the Fireplace room (we were assigned to the 1st floor). Yes, the walls were thin, but most people were really quiet. We hiked a few of the shorter hikes and took a drive to Forks. In spite of a little rain, we had a great time. Wonderful rain forest.

Room Tip: The lakeside rooms on the 1st or 2nd floor have the lake view. The 3rd floor is called the treehous...

The lodge is filled with old photographs and historic information about the lodge and surrounding area. There is a large lawn, and plenty of places to sit outside to take in the scenery. Lots of beautiful views, and the lodge and cabins seem well kept. We stayed in a very small room in the main lodge, and enjoyed the view of the lake from our window. Dinner was tasty, and we loved the big fireplace in lobby. It's a family-friendly hotel with a whole cabinet full of board games. We want to go again, with the kids this time, in the summer to do some kayaking on the lake.

Room Tip: Room 103 was right above the rec room. We could hear lots of noise from downstairs, but the rec room...
