“An almost perfect visit”

Just got back from a weekend stay in one of the fireplace rooms at the lodge. The room was spacious, had newer furnishings, and was very clean.

Pluses:
- Covered patio with adirondack chairs overlooking the lake
- Comfortable king-sized bed
- Parking right at our room door
- Wonderful gas fireplace that kept the room toasty warm on a near-freezing evening.
- Unlimited Breakfast Buffet for $12 which included made-to-order omelets and portobello mushroom benedict!

Minuses:
- THE THIN FLOORS! We were unfortunately on the first floor, and we could hear every footstep above... which included children running around the room until 1am, and starting up again at 8am. Now we know why they keep big walking sticks hanging by the door to the room... so you can easily bang on the ceiling to get your upstairs neighbors to quiet down!

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms are a must in the lodge building or fireplace rooms!

We just returned from the Lake Quinault Lodge - stayed over Saturday the 20th. Room 203 above the rain gauge. Groupon deal. The room was clean, in fact, spotless. The walls are thin and the bathroom light and fan are on the same switch - a bit annoying but not a deal killer. The king size bed was better than most with enough pillows to satisfy anyone. The view of the lake is worth a million bucks...when the sun came out Sunday morning. We arrived at 5pm on Saturday in a helluva hail storm.

Unlike some other gourmet reviewers here, we found the dining experience to be excellent. The salad with glazed walnuts and strawberries at $11 was one of the best we've ever had. The fish and chips at $16 was as good as any we've ever tasted. The fries were done perfectly and the cod - three pieces - was moist and flaky. We shared the Marion Berry cobbler with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream - too much for one person. The servers were attentive and personable. The Sunday buffet was also great. Two chefs made omelets to order and they were delicious. Make sure you get a window seat to watch the lake in the daytime. We ate in the Roosevelt room on Saturday night - too dark to see anything outside anyway. Fresh flowers on our table (not on every table) made it very nice.

From Seattle, the quickest way is down I-5 and up 101. We drove to Quinault via the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry and Coupeville-Port Townsend ferry. The drive takes much longer but beautiful just the same. Plus we saw a few large sea lions on the crossing.

Hint. When driving south on 101 from Forks, do NOT take the first road that says Lake Quinault. It runs for 15 miles along the east side of the lake on a very narrow pothole filled road that will beat your car to pieces. However, we did see Roosevelt Elk within 10 yards of the road and drove past trees covered with moss that you won't see anywhere else without taking a hike and getting soaked.

Room Tip: Pay for a lake view room. There are no bad views from the second floor.

This is a getaway gem that we take advantage of at least once per year even though we only live 2.5 hours away.

I've noticed some people very unhappy, and all I can suggest is that if you're the type of person that takes pictures of small blemishes in hotel rooms, you will be unhappy here --- this is not 4-star accomodations, regardless of the room you get (and there are 4 varieties, so all guests should consult the website descriptions and pictures to ensure they get the type that best matches their desires).

The restaurant is expensive because you are more than 2 hours from the nearest metro area --- that's costly to get quality ingredients to. It's also expensive because they do not cut corners on ingredients. Being natives, we know excellent salmon and the "Alder salmon for two" at Lk. Quinault is some of the best you'll ever experience.

I believe that if you are someone that is happy from within, and isn't looking for luxury, you'll love this lodge, but if you are going to compare it to 'regular' hotels, you may be disappointed. We wouldn't have it any other way --- we think this place is perfect for what it is: a wonderful contemplative cloistered getaway in a towering rain forest that literally puts you in your place in the world (small). But you'll be comfortably and warmly small here! =)

It was so much fun to come to this beautiful lodge in the great Olympic Forest. The road and the trip to this stately old lodge is quite scenic and ocean stops along the way are possible. Then to arrive at such a serene setting with the incredible view of Lake Quinault was such an incredible ending to our secontd day as we toured the great State of Washington and the Olympic National Park. We ate in the dining room, which was also very scenic and very good food for dinner and breakfast. I recommend the sweet potatoe pancakes. The lodge is very close to the largest Sitka Spruce tree in the world, which is a must to see. Our room was how you would expect an old lodge room to be but very comfortable and free wifi was available in the grand lobby which also was quite beautiful and a perfect place to relax. This place made our trip very special. The staff was very helpful and polite.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main lodge facing the Lake.

This lodge on the edge of the rainforest is perfect for active outdoor types as well as for lay-back-and-relax types. Size and type of room depends on whether you are in the lodge, in the Boathouse or in the Lakeside building. Ask for descriptions to see what suits you best. I love the four or five Boathouse rooms that face the lawns and lake. If you will be spending a lot of time in your room, the Lakeside has balconies. Rooms are smaller in the Lodge but they have that cosy old-time feel and you are close to the wonderful greatroom and dining.
Take advantage of the knowlegable staff to find out what to do and how to do it. Also the Ranger Station is right next door.

Sometimes one needs to get away from the concrete and lights. Lake Quinault Lodge is an excellent choice to do so. Just a few hours away, easy to find, amazingly quiet, lovely private beach to watch the sun set, great hikes right out the front door or the back one, lovely nightly fire in the massive great room with plenty of soft leather sofas to cozy in to for an evening of talking, reading, wining. Only negative for us was that the restaurant prices were too high -- food was good, but not that creative or amazing to warrant their prices. Otherwise, a really lovely three-day getaway spot.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the back lawn and the lake are quietest and of course offer best views...but window...

This place has such great charm and history. Tons of trails to go on. The lodge had the best bed I have ever slept in. Staff was wonderful. It rained the whole time on our trip but what do you expect in the rain forest? Bring your rain gear so you can enjoy the outside. Our room did not have a microwave, refridgerator or TV. I would recommend bringing some snacks since there is not very many places to shop.

Room Tip: the lodge has the remodled rooms
