Friendly staff is what first comes to my mind when I think of New China ... we're usually seated promptly, the servers remember what drinks my family usually orders and always asks how things are going.

Among all the chinese buffets in the Dupont, Tacoma, and Federal Way corridor, New China is one of three of my favorites, even when their food selection is not as great as others, and they charge the same price.

That said, there is the right time and wrong time to visit this restaurant ... "Go There" when they are busy and "Avoid Them" during lull periods or slow days. The quality of their foods is significantly different between these two periods of time.

When I want my Chinese food "fix" I enjoy going to New China Buffet. Once you enter the door, you are immediately seated, your drink order is taken, and you are off to the buffet. You can be eating within 5 minutes upon entering! There are several items to choose from and the cooks are always replenishing the food trays. You can get your favorite "staples" like fried rice, noodles, egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken, etc. There is also a grill area where you put your noodles, veggies, meats, and sauces on a plate and the cook then cooks it up for you. There is sushi there, but I haven't tried it (since I am particular about sushi and want to go to a REAL sushi place for that). For kids (and adults, too), there is pizza, french fries, soup, and also a salad and dessert bar. You can take a whole family there and everyone would find something to eat. The prices are reasonable, too. A lunch will cost around $7.00 (drinks are no longer included). Dinner is more (around $15.00) since they put out seafood. If you like crab legs, shrimp, and other fish, it is worth it. The crab legs are really good, but once they are put out, you better get right up there since they will be gone within a few minutes. If you are looking for a traditional sit-down and decorated place, this isn't for you, but if you want a good Chinese meal and you don't want to sit for an hour or more, this is the place to go.

We have been to China and have REAL Chinese cook friends and most restaurants in the US do not have real Chinese. New China Buffet actually does!

While they have their share of "gingo" Chinese, they have some of the ugly but tasty foods that you would find in China. The food is spiced well and flavorful. It is also kept fresh and hot.

There is something here for everyone!

My family and I love going to this Chinese Buffet. There is a great variety to choose from, the food is always fresh, the service is friendly. I don't know if the sushi is any good since we don't eat sushi but everything else is excellent. We tried going to the King Wok's Buffet which is just down the street and it was horrible. It made us appreciate the New China Buffet even more. We will not stray again.
