“Do not stay here”
Reviewed August 19, 2010

I was in Port Townsend on business last weekend. I checked into this motel and was very disenchanted. The hotel is sad and ran down. The rooms are dated in the 80's and equipped with a sliver of soap to shower with. The showers come equipped with "wall mounted" shower gel dispenser and that was empty. The sink vanity was rusted and the floors were dirty. The shower curtain was ripped and water got on the floor. The beds are squeaky as well as old and out dated. The walls are paper thin and there IS NO AIR CONDITIONING. We were there on an unusually hot weekend and there wern't even any fans available. The guests are less than ideal as well. It's more like a party spot for weekend travelers that stay up smoking all night. The smoke travels into the room and your up all night listening to the partiers drinking and smoking. They sit right outside their rooms by your window. The rooms were grossly overpriced as well at a rate of $169.00 per night. I would have been better off staying in a cardboard box under an airconditioner unit outside. I wouldn't have paid $40.00 to stay here.

This motel would be very quaint if the owners would spend a little money on remodeling. Great location though.

The positives are: close to the water, downtown and shops.

Despite the poor reviews, my family decided to stay at Port Townsend Inn mainly because they have a swimming pool (we have two little kids). The pool is a decent size and seems to be well kept. I would come back just because of the swimming pool as my kids could spend hours there. I heard from the front desk that the motel is undergoing major changes and it did seem apparent as our mattress and furniture were in great shape. I'm not sure about other rooms, but the room we stayed in were clean and well maintained. Continental breakfast included all the basics -- bagels, muffins, coffee, and even yogurt. Not a warm breakfast, but for a motel it was pretty good. At least my family was well fed.

The price may be a little high for a night at an Inn, but it seems to be the cheapest in the neighborhood. Considering the quality and price, I think the place is a good deal for a motel, especially if you would like a swimming pool for the kids.

Beware this inn! Do not be tricked into thinking it's a hotel because it says "inn!"

Here's what you get with Port Townsend Inn:

A two-story run-down and poorly maintained hotel.
Very small rooms
Horribly squeaky beds that will leave you with back ache
A shower that will either burn your skin off or leave you frozen as an ice cube
A faucet similar to the shower (either very hot or very cold)
Low-rate amenities

I paid $149 for this motel for one night. Should've only been at most 60 dollars per night.

If they charge you more than 90 dollars at peak season, step away or you will get horribly ripped off.

...along with two cigarette butts (in my supposedly non-smoking room!). Non-smoking my behind - it stank of smoke. I actually had to open the windows - in December! - to air it out a little. It was also dirty, did not have towels and there was no lightbulb in the lamp. The room was dead depressing - stark white walls, an ugly bedspread, and inexplicably crooked, too-small paintings on the walls. Oh, and one painting was upside-down. The heater either had to be on, making the room burning hot, or off, making it frigid. No in-between. The advertised fridge was present, but nonfunctional. The only pros were the location (though there are at least three other hotels and numerous b&bs within about three blocks), the free wi-fi (spotty at best, but hey, at least it's something), and the fact that they allow pets. Oh, and it was dirt cheap. At $60 a night, I guess you get what you pay for!

After a fabulous trip south we thought we'd stop in Port Townsend for a night. We took one look at our room, told the front desk we would not be staying and left for Port Angeles. $129.00 a night plus tax - in September - is not good value for your dollar...at this hotel. We did stay at Olympic Lodge in Port Angeles for $30.00 more a night and it was amazing! We had a view of the golf course and mountains. The pool and hot tub are clean and hot! Great work out room and lovely restaurants...it's worth the 30 minute trip down the highway!

Good points: The bed was comfortable.
Bad points: Everything else. Cheapest in town (but not really cheap), but I guess you get what you pay for in PT. Lights not working, broken toilet seat, shower faucet unattached from wall. Holes in wall. Couldn't get out fast enough in the morning. Prime reason we stayed there was it was dog-friendly, but that isn't reason enough to ever return.

Hot tub was cool (and dirty with broken jets), pool was freezing. Manager said it was b/c recent solar heating had cooled due to stormy weather. So don't stay if the sun isn't out if you plan to swim. Room was large, but needed a good scrubbing, broken remote control with small tv. No vcr or dvd for the kids. Pool picture on brochure makes this place look really nice - it isn't. Continental breakfast was good. Front desk personnel chatty. You can hear your neighbors talking and using their bathroom through the walls. Price wasn't bad for this kind of motel, but wasn't good considering the hotel's need for upgrades and refurbishment. Only stay here if you can't find anything else.

  • Liked — Convenient location in town
  • Disliked — needs cleaning and upgraded amenities - hated the cold hot tub and even colder pool
