“Our Favorite B&B in Port Townsend, WA”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

We found out about the Commander's Beach House when we searched online at www.bedandbreakfast.com. One thing we were looking for was a place right on the beach. Our wish was fulfilled! We fell asleep to the sounds of the waves and the chiming of a buoy. In the morning, we first enjoyed a walk on the beach, and conversation in the cottage garden. Next we were treated to a delicious, fresh breakfast which included a cantaloupe and blueberry concoction, followed by a veggie frittata and apple pastry. The hospitality was excellent! Thank you, Gail and Jim!

I have stayed at many B & Bs and am happy to say the best experience by far has been at the Commander's Beach House in Port Townsend Washington. It is pretty without being fussy, the breakfast was delicious and filling, the inn keepers, Jim and Gail are very personable and make you feel like an old family friend come to visit. The location of the house can't be beat. The porch leads to a lovely lawn and garden that leads to the beautiful beach. Everything about this place makes you feel right at home including their big sweet yellow lab. We will be back!

Room Tip: To avoid stairs stay in the Schooner room downstairs. It has a fireplace and private bath

Jim and Gail present you with a wonderful B&B experience. Indeed, the Commander's Beach House is the reason many of us pass by the big hotel chains en route to charm and beauty that permeates the experience of staying at the Beach House. Could not have asked for better meals, a more relaxing atmosphere, intertesting guests, and even a really neat dog (Clipper makes the stay more like home!). We'll be back, Sue and Jack

We recently returned from one of many visits, over a period of about ten years, to The Commander's Beach House. We enjoy the ambiance, Gail, Jim and Captain Cutter so much that we have encouraged family members and friends to join us at times. It's cozy, comfortable, located on a beach and within walking distance of quaint downtown Port Townsend. Gail's country garden is a joy to behold, when one isn't distracted by the views of sail boats, ships, mountains on a clear day, shore birds and even an occasional rainbow, from lawn chairs on the spacious lawn, porch or living room with fireplace. Gail's breakfasts are consistently special and ample; and, when available, we have savored the treat of feasting on fresh crab, which they have caught and prepared, in the evening. Our favorite rooms are the Lighthouse Suite and the Schooner, attractively decorated, with windows which open to the sound of waves lapping at the shore. Gail and Jim are active in their community and share helpful, first-hand information about local attractions and resources. Is it any wonder that we return again and again to enjoy their hospitality and accommodations!

What a wonderful experience! Jim and Gail were the perfect host and hostess. We spent three nights there and had a wonderful time. Our room (the schooner) was restful and private. Breakfast was delicious. We had a special treat while we were there.....fresh crab!! Shopping in downtown Port Townsend was just a couple of blocks away and Puget Sound was just outside the front door. Very relaxing!! Jeff and I plan on returning....soon!

When you stay at the Commander's Beach House you'll be treated like admiralty! It's a very laid back location and informal atmosphere. As the name suggests, you sit right on the beach watching a variety of ships pass by-- from Naval cruisers to sailboats. Plenty of shore birds and other wildlife to enjoy too. The B&B is conveniently located to many local sites as well. Jim and Gail were excellent hosts, and as they often do during the summer, they invited us to join them in a fresh crab dinner. We'll definitely be back again.

Five women went to the beach and were met by Jim and Captain Cutter. It was a cloudy day (even though it was July) and the house was filled with the scent of cooking chili. Our hosts were there to help but never in our way. We laughed and laughed. We laughed in the cozy living room in front of the fire. We laughed on the beach chairs looking at the sail boats and ferries. We laughed at the table eating the wonderful breakfasts. And we laughed in our lovely bedrooms. We had a wonderful time thanks to our hosts Jim and Gail and of course Captain Cutter.
