“A Peaceful and Delightful Respite”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

My wife and I have been coming to Chevy Chase Beach cabins now for more than 5 years. It's an experience unlike a lot of other "getaway" spots for us because we enjoy taking our Golden Retriever's with us for vacation whenever we can.

Chevy Chase Beach Cabins is located a few minutes outside Port Townsend and is made up of several cottages and bungalows clustered together overlooking Discovery Bay. If you would like a more private experience, one cottage called "Meadow House" is down the road about 150 yards from the main area, with a fence and overlooking a duck pond right out of a landscape painting.

Staying at the cottages means you get access to the stretch of beach. A short quarter mile walk down the path and some stairs and you are at picturesque Discovery Bay, or what our dogs refer to as "heaven". The beach stretches for a few miles in either direction, and the water is rather shallow for about 30 feet in depending on the tide and time of year. My wife and I head down to the beach twice a day when we stay, and they absolutely love it.

But what really sets Chevy Chase apart is the staff. They've created a unique experience with their cottage setup that is at once hands off and at the same time "anything you need". When you arrive at your cabin you'll find a comfortable spotlessly clean home. All feature kitchens or kitchenettes stocked with utensils, plates/cups, and appliances. All have comfortable beds with plenty of sheets, blankets and pillows. Most have seperate bedrooms and outdoor grills, some even have laundry machines. The website does a great job of showing you what each cottage offers.

A schedule of the tides, local attractions, and even advice for clamming if that's your thing are provided. Each cottage also features a TV and DVD player, board games, and many different genres of books to read. Internet access is also provided via free Wi-Fi. How you relax is up to you. If you like physical activity besides the beach there's Tennis and tetherball and a pool in season, and nearby is a golf course. Bird spotting is also quite popular in the area and most cabins have a guide and small binoculars.

The staff are not just friendly but wonderful people to know, and are usually found either gardening around the large white house that serves as their "Office" or just wandering around the beautiful grounds of the area with the mascot yellow lab "Scout".

Each cabin is pet friendly and they provide plenty of towels and sheets to keep sandy dog paws from making a mess inside. They do ask, understandably, that you never leave your pets unattended inside the cabins.

Chevy Chase Beach Cabins has been our vacation spot for years despite the fact its a mere 2 hours from our home. The environment is wonderful and our dogs love it too. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: While the cabins have heat they don't have AC, summer temperatures rare make this an issue as th...

Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thorough and glowing review! You have described exactly how we want our guests to feel -- taken care of while at the same time being totally left alone. We often don't see guests -- preferring to leave them in the privacy of their getaway spaces -- but hope they always know that we are just a phone call (or walk to the main house) away if they need anything. And I'm also glad to hear such praise for the Meadow House! It is such a wonderful space, yet often overlooked since it is not on the main property. Many think that the views of Discovery Bay and Olympics can't be beat, but I argue that thepond with the migrating birds, beautiful trees and red barn are about as peaceful as it gets. Thank you for keeping Chevy at the top of your "getaway" list and for sharing your experience. Looking forward to seeing you and your beautiful Goldens again soon!

We were gifted a 2-night stay at Chevy Chase Beach cabins by dear friends - we started an 8-day fall vacation to the Olympic Penninsula and Seattle, WA at Chevy Chase. This was the most wonderful place to relax, unwind, slow down and settle in to vacation mode. Our cottage style cabin had a huge deck, with deck furniture, grill, everything you need for outdoor dining, a beautiful bed surrounded by windows - we could drift to sleep with the soothing sounds of the water tides, and awake to views of mountains and the beautiful water. A precious path leads from the cabins down to the beach which is stunning and private - driftwood and beautiful rocks and dark, gorgeous sand - all surrounded by mountains and stunning trees - perfect for an artist - my daughter brought her sketchpad and charcoals and spent hours down there drawing and soaking it in. Fully stocked kitchen, coffee w/cream and sugar ready to go - the cabins are only minutes away from the Waterfront area and we were able to pick up breakfast items to bring back to the cabin at the Safeway there. There are wonderful apple trees on the property and we were able to eat some of the tree-ripened apples - FUN! Don't settle for less - if you're heading to Port Townsend, Chevy Chase is THE place to stay! The dog is super friendly too! Free movies to borrow and watch, friendly owners who gave us the quiet privacy I craved and desperately needed.

We are so happy that you were able to start your Pacific Northwest Adventure in Cabin #4! It is indeed the perfect perch for winding down and gazing out. We were thrilled that Lisa sent you our way and that you were able to sink in to a true vacation mode. Thank you so much for taking the time to let others know about your experience.

Cozy quintessential Northwest experience. Inn's grounds are beautiful. View of the water from the property is breathtaking. Great beach walks. Short drive into town for great restaurants. Kitchens are perfectly equipped for cooking local oysters, crabs and mussels. We'll be back every year.

We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay! Hopefully next year the tides will cooperate and you can add some fresh local clams from OUR beach to your seafood bounty. We look forward to having you back!

My husband and I celebrated our 2nd yr Anniversary here a yr ago and we were absolutely in heaven! Cozy and quaint cabins sitting high above Discovery Bay and only minutes from downtown Port Townsend. Friendly folks and a golden lab to greet us upon our arrival. We were in awe with this place not just with the cabins but the views and the well kept grounds were beautiful! Our cabin (#10) was perfect in every way! Cozy, cheery, and so cute! All the necessities were available. I had asked for flowers, chocolate, and wine to be delivered before our arrival and boy was I surprised with what the managers picked out for us.....well done and such a beautiful flower arrangement! We brought our golden retriever, Bear, which of course dogs are welcomed. We don't go without. To see the beach it's just a hop and a skip away from your lil peace of heaven. And for those who love to golf there's a 9 hole I believe it is just kiddy corner to Chevy Chase Cabins, just by walking across the street! There are cabins that accommodate for 2 or for a family. After a day in town can enjoy their clean and fun pool or head to the beach. If you've never been to the lil and quaint town of Port Townsend, it's a must see! Lots of lil fun shops, great food, coffee, art galleries, and a great tour of Fort Worden State Park for some good history knowledge, and other attractions that make this getaway tons of fun and very relaxing. The price a night $150 was right up our alley. You can't beat this place! Only a 2 hr drive from our home. We will definitely be back for some more fun in the sun at Chevy Chase Cabins : )

Room Tip: Any cabin is peaceful

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! I am so happy to hear that you (and your pooch!) enjoyed your anniversary visit last summer. We actually don't get the wine/chocolate/flowers request very often (which is kind of surprising), so it is fun to have the chance to put a little package together. We hope to see you again soon!
Warmly,
Joanna
PS: The golf course across the street is 18-holes, dog friendly, and also open year round!

Five of us stayed in the Homestead for 3 nights - 2 couples and 1 single person. It was quiet, comfortable, clean, and spacious, and nearly everything was provided, including information about the area. There were trails to walk along right by the property, and it was a short drive to a lighthouse at the beach. We cooked some meals in the totally well-stocked kitchen but also found some nice restaurants in the nearby town. We never met the staff in person but they were amazingly helpful by email and phone. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to the Pacific NW.

Once a year we have an annual "Stecker Bros. Gathering" at Chevy Chase! For many years we had been renting a home for our group of 10 at different places in the northwest but once finding Chevy Chase, it has become our little home away from home, or should I say "homes". The first year we rented the Meadow House and the Homestead and the following year the Clubhouse and the Homestead (which we now rent annually). It is so relaxing and comfortable not to mention the beautiful scenery. A slice of heaven, away from the hustle and bustle where we can spend time together.

The cabins have everything you need... lots of movie choices, books, music etc., The ride over on the ferry is great and Pt. Townsend never disappoints. Our family highly recommends you check this place out for yourself. We visit in the fall when the leaves add to the beauty of an already gorgeous setting!! A walk or two on the beach, sitting out on the deck, there is lots to do, or just do nothing but sit back and take it all in.

We look forward to our annual event and truly feel like it is has become our 2nd home! :)

My husband and I stayed at the Chevy Chase Beach Cabins last weekend while visiting the Seattle area. We had the little blue cabin #10. We really enjoyed our stay and the cabin had everything we needed. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed relaxing and spending time on the beach. Scout was a great amenity and we enjoyed walking her (or should I saw she walked us!) on the beach. We lucked out and had beautiful sunny weather - picture perfect fall weather. The whole property is even more beautiful than it looks in the pictures. We didn't get to spend too much time relaxing as we took a trip out to the Olympic National Park which took up the only full day we had there. It was worth the trip, however, but it was about 2 1/2 hours each way to the Pacific. We had a great time at Rialto beach and lunch at Lake Crescent Lodge. So gorgeous! Can't wait to visit again and spend more time exploring the areas around Port Townsend. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back. We miss you Scout and Chevy Chase!

Room Tip: All of the cabins are close to the beach, so I really don't think you can pick a bad one. They...
