I have always wanted to get married here since I was a kid, and finally did. The only thing is, and being from a big city where folks rent parks with permits for weddings like crazy, we went to City Hall and they will only book and take money for ONE wedding a week! So, we had to chance it, make plan B, decide what to do if someone else came, etc. Could have lived without the stress. The clerk told us the city was too 'broke' to clean it; but if they took people's money, wouldn't that help? There was a wedding the day before, so the site was clean. It had rained the day before, so the air was fresh, the sun shining and it couldn't be prettier. Seems to me, coming from Portland with the famous Rose Gardens and others that are booked back to back every 2 hours, why not take the money? or, some cities don't charge the insurance, and I read about renting a pavilion for $20. No one tells you there is a limit, just one of those weird Port Townsend things they don't see forests from trees. Mke money to make improvements here. There are so many destination weddings in PT, but not a wedding shop for miles and no way to really co-ordinate an event. The city could have made, according to their website, $150-200 a pop for weddings. I'm not saying I wasn't happy to have a free wedding, plus we saved doing everything for the ceremony ourselves, just the peace of mind of a permit would have been nice. As it was, our bridesmaid had to shoe off people that were trying to get in our food, like it was a free public potluck, so we had to keep someone on the site as we decorated at all times. It was, indeed, a beautiful wedding!
