This was certainly an interesting place to stay, based on its history. You really will be staying in a room above a saloon, just like in the old west, so don't expect the comfort inn. However, my experience was better than the one described in the previous rating. They were fixing the roof when I was there, in September of 2004. The door had a working lock, that wasn't quite as secure as a deadbolt, but did its job well. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, there were fresh towels and a spotless, modern bathroom. No, there was no TV, which surprised me, especially for $80 a night (street view room). There was also a lot of noise from the street, since one of my windows didn't close completely, and the other only had a flimsy screen. The loft was cool, and kids would enjoy it. My only other complaint: I found something weird in my ice bucket the following morning after the ice melt. I showed it to the person at the desk who didn't have much to say. A discount or at least a sincere apology would have been nice. But overall I wasn't disappointed, since I wasn't expecting a luxury hotel, i was expecting an 1800's saloon, and an historic experience. The belmont could improve, but it's still worth it. You can read more of my experience on my website, ---------------.

The hotel does not have on-site night staff. The four rooms have a separate outside entrance, up a long staircase. No one even offered to help with my suitcase and I'm an old lady. The rooms do no have a working smoke alarm in them. I wasn't too worried about fire as the buckets lined up in the hallway were catching the rain coming through the roof. The door does not have a lock on the inside; it was very flimsy. The lock on the bathroom door fell off in my hand. The water ran right down the drain--no way to take a bath. There was no phone book, no radio, no tv, no shampoo; no one changed the towels or made the bed the 3 nights I stayed there. The restaurant was good, however. Had they not taken my money when I checked in, I would have moved over to the Palace across the street. Now, that's a great hotel!
