I have been visiting and holding all memories dear to my heart, my friends, my family, pets that have all joined me for 34 years. yes of late their have been problems, however, what has not changed is the warmth and graciousness in the way we have been treated. also the views are special, the wild life is beautiful, if only one takes the time to look. I was just there last week, and happy to report new refridgerators in beach house 1 and new memories made. I will be there again. thank you, your loyal friend, cindy.

Only resort with covered porches with best views of the ocean - and just off the beach. Yes, rooms are outdated, but who cares. They are clean. Staff is very nice and very accomodating. Lots to do and just a few steps from the beach. Nice gift shop. Barbeque pits, horseshoe, kite flying, sandcastles. clam shack and laundry and lovely landscape. Excellent get-away!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the ocean with covered porches are best, good values off season.

Enjoyed our short stay during a stormy weekend. Comfortable room, great views, good service. Yes, it's outdated in many ways, but it was clean and we didn't mind. Not a pristine luxury resort by any stretch. Great for a low key weekend.

We have been visiting Sandpiper for about 10 years now, and continue to watch the present owner allow a slow and unfortunate decay of the property. Still, the location is wonderful, the rooms are pleasant, and if you have a dog there may be no better place to watch it play in the surf. Look at the different types of rooms they offer as some work great for one person, others work for a group. Watch the news, when clam digging is good (very low tide) you can have a lot of fun with the kids digging up clams and cooking up a very nice dinner. Be aware you need to shop on the way, take a laundry basket full of food and enjoy the lack of phones, TV and computers.

Room Tip: Be aware of the selection of different types of rooms, pick what works for your particular visit.

We have been going to the Sandpiper for about 20 years now. I wish the new owners would do the things needing to be done to keep us coming back. We don't want it to be a Five Star hotel, but things need to be in working order. We love that we can bring our dog but we want a toilet that flushes well, chairs that aren't falling apart and doors that lock. New covers for the couches would be great!

Room Tip: The rooms on the bottom floor 15-18 are great if you have little kids because they can come and go a...

We've been coming here for years. It is simply the best view on the Washington coast, and a couple of rooms are large enough for a crowd. The rude clerk another person mentioned is the new (5 years?) owner. Never a classy resort, it was always a rustic, fun, relatively clean place. No more. It is falling apart from neglect, nasty dirty couches never change, beds are horrendous, broken furniture is simply not replaced. Locks, lights, towel warmers, shower...every year more items are broken or are simply not there. The maids never come to clean, and pretend they don't speak English when you try. No hangers, very little furniture, beat up or non-existent kitchen items, filthy decrepit curtains. Will we ever return? Absolutely. Why? The beach, the price...but each visit threatens to be our last. What a darn shame.

Room Tip: Avoid the separate cabins at all costs. Bottom floor rooms are great with dogs & kids.

Thanks for your honest review in 2011, carllee12. I wanted to let you know that the Sandpiper is under new management as of March 2013. Our top priority has been to address many of the concerns your described in your review, focusing first on safety, cleanliness, and removal and replacement of broken furniture or equipment. Each unit or cabin is now undergoing a management inspection before a guest checks in. We are ensuring that our housekeeping staff make contact with each guest daily to identify any needs for fresh towels, linens, supplies, or cleaning. We're glad to hear that you do continue to return, and we hope that you will see improvements with each and every return visit.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Sandpiper Beach Resort is located on Washington's wild Pacific Coast, two miles south of the town of Pacific Beach in Grays Harbor County, roughly 3 hours' drive west of Seattle. The resort, founded in 1973, is nestled on a forested hillside directly on Mocrocks beach, a miles-long strip of flat, sandy beach known for its crashing surf, adjacent clay bluffs, and solitude. Offshore, fishing boats and whales ply the pristine waters of the Copalis National Wildlife Refuge. At the Sandpiper, our goal is to provide you with a clean, comfortable, functional and affordable place to get away from it all and enjoy the company of those you're traveling with. Accommodations range from small cabins or studios with room for 2-4 guests, up to large cabins or multi-bedroom units that are perfect for groups as large as 12. Each unit includes a fully-equipped kitchen, fireplace, sweeping ocean view, and a private deck or patio with rocking or lounge chairs for taking in the sunset with a glass of wine in hand.Sandpiper guests pass their time in a range of activities. Long walks on the beach are a must in any season. A winter day might be spent inside by the fire, watching a storm roll in off the Pacific. The wind is often perfect for kite-flying, while a warm day in July or August finds many guests swimming or body-surfing in the cool ocean waves. The Sandpiper infuses kids and dogs with a special energy; both are welcome and encouraged here. Generations of Northwest families have made the Sandpiper a home away from home. Our position by the world's most productive razor clam beds, together with our handy Clam Kitchen, draws visitors during licensed digs throughout the fall, winter and spring. Fishermen don hip-waders and stride into the waves after tasty surfperch. Indoors, you might cook up a delicious meal, read a good book, or tackle a board game or puzzle. At night, a cozy bed and the soft roar of the ocean will allow you to drift off and perhaps even sleep in late.If cabin fever strikes, head over to our Gift Shop to sip an espresso, use the free Wi-Fi, and shop for a memento of your stay or a gift for a loved one. Hop in the car to explore all that coastal Washington has to offer, from horseback riding on the beach at Ocean Shores, to hiking the temperate rain forest or alpine peaks of nearby Olympic National Park. The closest town, Pacific Beach, housed a secret Cold War-era submarine-listening post, which is now a recreation facility open to the public.A bit further north in Moclips, the Museum of the North Beach chronicles the unexpectedly rich history of the area. The beaches of the Quinault Indian Nation hide remote treasures like the much-photographed Tunnel Island; visit tribal headquarters in Taholah for a day pass, or engage a tribal guide for world-class salmon fishing on the Quinault River. The Sandpiper is a true retreat, with no TVs or phones to disturb your stay, and only limited cell phone service in the area.
