This museum is a great place to take kids on a rainy northwest day. The new museum will open shortly and looks fantastic. On a nice day, would recommend getting the kid's outdoors as there are MANY outdoor activities around Olympia that are great for kids.

Plenty of kid-friendly activities and helpful staff. The whole family, from 2-year old to 85-year old, enjoyed it. A busy, creative, learning-centered and exciting place for kids.

Very good size children museum with the usual exhibits - vet clinic, grocery store, ect. Has some unique stuff like a boat with a working crane and magic sand. On weekend, for pasrking, if you face the front door of the museum, there is an open parking garage on the left. Parking on the weekend is free there. We have also held a birthday party there and had a great time. Staff was great, make sure to get one of the two rooms with the outside windows (two other party rooms dont have windows and are further in).

But the learning piece is only there if YOU the PARENT participates. The kids will play for hours in the exhibits, but if you do not participate then it is just a fancy indoor playground. The staff is a bit distant, or non-existent, and the entry is pretty high. Parking is available but could be tough if you are not familiar with the area. The exhibits, all donations, are out-freaking-standing! Besides the typical grocery and hospital there is a whole marine vessel with a working crane to play on! Across the street are the state capitol grounds with some landscape, architecture, and art. All of the exhibits are clean and in good repair. It was busy but not over crowded when we visited.

I read that it was small and only so-so, so I was prepared to just stay for 30 min to and hour tops. But my almost 3 year old son really enjoyed the seafood & meat counter section of the well-stocked grocery store. There was also a place to shovel rocks into a dump tuck with wheel barrows, a nice sand table and train table. We had lots of fun and I think it was well worth the price of admission.
