Our stay with Carl and Sandy was so educational and relaxing. We were greeted warmly by Carl showing his sincere care for our stay and inviting us to have warm refreshments he had finished baking. Our night was heavenly overlooking the bay water and watching the deer grazing in the yard. A breakfast awaited us on the landing with fresh juices, fruits, granola, cereals and coffee. We geared up for a fabulous experience of kayaking in the sound among the seal lions, seeing eagles in the trees and catching wakes from passing boats. Back at brunch we were fed more hearty foods and pleasant conversation with many interesting guests. Our bed was feathered comfy and bathroom clean. We loved our stay and since recommended it to friends who have been equally pleased.

We agree with the rave reviews below. Sandy and Carl are superb hosts, they took care of every detail, they made kayaking fun for these two novices, and the food was as good as advertised. They were very helpful with candid advice on restaurants, hiking opportunities in the State Parks, and other items. Would go back again anytime!

The Spring Bay Inn provided my wife and I a wonderful escape. It is of the finest establishments there is to find, especially in the San Juans. Carl and Sandy are exceptional people and are only too happy to make your stay at SBI one never to forget. Of the 5 rooms, we stayed in the forest room. It is one of the end rooms and offers a private balcony which overlooks the forested hillside and the beach. All the rooms offer significant privacy, amazing views and gracious comfort. The great room downstairs, with its view down to the waters edge is a destination unto itself. If you don't leave SBI for your entire stay on Orcas Island, you wont be dissapointed. The state park adjacent to the property provides ample opportunity for exploration and the kayaking each morning make the novice feel like a pro. Thanks Sandy and Carl!

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at this Bed and Breakfast. The owners were so friendly and full of information - and their guided kayaking trips in the morning are so much fun. The property itself is just gorgeous - we stayed in the "Ocean" room and were very comfortable. We would recommend a stay here to anyone!

Our first bed and breakfast.....we loved it. We are reluctant to try another because the Spring Bay Inn would be so hard to beat. The hosts of the inn are very knowledgeable and hospitable. The food was delicous, the scenery breathtaking, and the welcome warm. We are looking forward to visiting again.

What a perfect spot to relax. If a waterfront view through tall Douglas fir trees sounds heavenly, then this is the place for you. We tied a visit to Orcas Island to the end of our Alaskan cruise, and it turned out to be the perfect ending. Owners, Sandy & Carl do all they can to bring the best experiences to you. They are both retired park rangers, and after a healthy breakfast of fresh baked muffins, fruit and coffee, it is off the tour the waterways in a kayak. Even beginners can participate and find it a wonderful way to explore the natural beauty of the island. After an invigorating couple of hours on the water, it's back to the inn for a scrumptious brunch. Next, it the hardest part of your day; and that is to decide just where on the island you want to explore. Artisans abound in funky little shops and we can hardly wait to come back with friends to share this heavenly spot. Thanks to Sandy & Carl and their two laid-back retrievers who are always there to welcome you back to the inn.

The Spring Bay Inn is just one of those places that no matter how much time you spend there, you just don't wanna leave when it's time to go. Everything about the place -- from the incredible hospitality and down to earth nature of hosts Carl and Sandy to the great kayak trips to the super-friendly golden retrievers Rusty and Jennings -- makes it feel like the most welcoming place you could imagine. I could probably write good things about this place till my fingers hurt (great breakfasts/lunch, beautiful and secluded setting, knowledgeable advice on the island, wonderfully appointed house and rooms, etc), but I'll just say that it instantly became one of our favorite places on the globe the second we arrived. We stayed at another B&B on the island for the second half of our trip, and it too was great, but there simply is no comparison. Sandy and Carl have carved out a wonderful place for themselves on Orcas Island and lucky for us, they share it with strangers! Thanks, Carl and Sandy for having us...we'll be back soon!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to Spring Bay on Orcas Island. Our 57 secluded acres and private bay are a naturalist's haven. Orcas Island is where tree meets sea. Hundreds of islands, large and small and covered by old-growth evergreen, make up the archipelago of the San Juan Islands in northwest Washington state. Orcas is known to visitors for its laid back nature, its unparalleled beauty, and our preference for quality things over a quantity of them. We offer three niche services at Spring Bay: The Cabin on Spring Bay vacation rental, sea kayak touring, and small weddings. We invite you to experience the wonder of the place we call home while you stay in the waterfront cabin or come with us on a tour of these islands the best way they can be experienced, on the sea itself. We have been celebrating abiding love for decades, and we are honored to be a part of your wedding ceremony. At this retreat on Orcas Island, vacation rental guests can explore shoreline, wetland, and forest by foot, kayak, or rowboat. Afterward, enjoy soaking in the waterfront hot tub, or simply relax in comfort in the cabin or outside on the 40-foot deck mesmerized by the wide-open view of evergreen islands that seem to float upon the sea. Our goal is to provide you with whatever you need during your stay, but to leave you in the seclusion and peace of your own cabin. Hiking trails link Spring Bay's dozens of wooded acres to adjacent Obstruction Pass State Park, creating a 5-mile system of trails right outside your front door. We have preserved these acres so they may be enjoyed by naturalists and those who need the solace of seclusion. Spring Bay is an ideal place to elope. Your hosts have officiated and provided musical accompaniment for hundreds of small weddings and are proud to provide that service to ALL couples right here on the Spring Bay property. Since the Inn closed several years ago, guests of the Cabin are the only guests on the 57-acre property. You have private use of the hot tub, outdoor grill, beach picnic table and campfire area. The Cabin can accommodate 3 people maximum, and is ideal for a romantic hideaway, couples with one child, sibling getaways, and solo retreats. Guests can arrange a kayak tour that launches a few grassy steps from your front door to the beach. Happy trails from Spring Bay. ... more   less
