We stayed at the Ocean Shores RV Resort because we were interested in knowing more about Western Horizon properties. We were sorely disappointed in what we found. There are over 300 sites on the property, about half of which were not open to be used. (They are letting those sites grow over.) Of the other 150 available sites, hardly any were taken which should have been a huge tip-off. All the sites were overrun with trees and shrubs and looked as though they hadn't been maintained in years. Also, all of the sites were back-in only. It would be nearly impossible to bring a big RV to this resort.
The resort is so spread out that most people had to drive their vehicles to get to the washroom. We picked a spot near the washroom to get around this problem. The washrooms were in desperate need of work...chipped paint on the walls, water damage on the ceiling...not at all what you would expect of something called a 'resort'. There were free hot showers however with plenty of hot water.
As for the amenities, the 'arcade' was pretty sad. There was a pool table (missing balls, broken cues), a ping pong table (ratty paddles, one ball that was missing on one of the days of our stay), a fooseball table and an air hockey table. There was a closet with some puzzles but most of the puzzles had pieces missing. The pool looked ok, but we never tried it because the weather was cold during our stay. There was mini golf outside which consisted of 3 or 4 dilapitated holes which obviously have not been maintained in years. Wi-Fi was available only in the main building (which you had to drive to get to) for a cost of $2/day.
The staff was very friendly but there weren't enough of them. In fact, the only time we saw any staff was once at check-in and once when they locked up the clubhouse for night. We had reserved and paid for 3 nights, but once we had gotten set up and taken stock of the situation we decided to only stay 2 nights. The lady at reception was very good about giving us a refund.
All in all I would say that this could be a terrific resort with a major overhaul of the property, but in it's current state I wouldn't return.
