“Fascinating bridge, beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed August 31, 2014

I had a flying visit of only an hour or so and spent most of that time at the bridge. The views are glorious and, as per the title, the bridge is fascinating (OK, to some people :) ). Driving along the roads the reach the bridge is a delightful drive, with very little traffic, even during "busy periods". I was told that the park itself is very much worth a visit and will get there next time I visit the area.

Actually, the whole area has so much superb scenery... and so much of it is empty of habitation, of course.

“Drop dead gorgeous”
Reviewed August 30, 2014

I've been to this park several times, having moved to Whidbey Island last year. Even though it is a busy place, it is big and never so busy that you can't find a lovely quiet spot away from the world, even in summer. Most people never even make it past the top look-out spot, which is a fast & easy way to catch a stunning view in every direction. If you have an extra hour, though, a trip into the rest of the park is well worth it. You can park above (if you're lucky enough to find a parking spot) and walk down to the beach but there is plenty of parking if you drive into the park and many more choices. Discovery pass required or paid parking. Sunning & swimming for all ages at Cranberry Lake, which is adjacent to the sound, which has warm, calm water & boat, kayak, paddleboat rentals, a fast food stand with limited options, lots of hiking, fishing...The beach offers sandy beachcombing or lots of comfortable driftwood strewn nooks to pull out a book or just sit & watch the boats go by. A paved handicapped accessible walkway runs alongside the beach, informative placards along the way identifying aircraft & more. If you're traveling & are looking for a wonderful spot to park & enjoy a quick picnic (or a whole day), Deception Pass State Park offers as little or as much as you want. I give high marks to the accessibility factor of the lower parking lots, as often it is challenging to find handicapped accessible beautiful places. There are some musical performances at this park during the summer months. A Visitor information trailer is in the upper parking lot.

“Misty sunsets”

Fabulous views, not very many people and easy walking trails. Of course the bridge is fascinating, but the water is the real feature. Be sure to pay for the park pass.

“Bring your camera to capture the views.”
Reviewed August 29, 2014

Even an acrophobic person like me feels compelled to wander out on to the park's bridge for a picture or two. The area is stunningly beautiful, so be sure to bring your camera along.

Famous bridge, lovely park and fabulous, log strewn beaches. I only wish we could have stayed longer!
