I've been to several of the Ivar restaurants and they always deliver delicious seafood! There was a group of about 8 of us and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The only downside was it was bit dark in the restaurant and not very bright.

Last week we checked out the Ivar's at the ferry dock in Mukilteo (one of the many Ivar's on the lower Puget Sound.) We went for lunch and there was quite a crowd but the service was pretty good (due to an allergy we requested no shrimp in a salad yet it came with some!) Otherwise the food was pretty much what one would expect - good but nothing exceptional. The fried razor clams were the highlight of the three entries we had. The setting is exceptional - the day's heavy fog made for some surreal conditions but limited the seaside vistas. I hesitate to complain but wished it would have been a little more unique or special.

On the first Saturday in December, the community of Mukilteo lights the Christmas tree just up the hill from Ivars. After a photo shoot for the band Grace DeGroot, the members and photographers went to the lounge at Ivars. Our service was great, as usual, and the food is always delicious. Then just a short walk up the hill to Rosehill Community Center for the tree lighting, with a great view of the Mukilteo Lighthouse, all lit up for Christmas!

The clam chowder is wonderful! The views from the restaurant is relaxing and beautiful. The sandwiches at lunch are delicious and the bread that is used makes the sandwiches even more delicious. A worthwhile place to eat!

On arrival we were happy to see a well stocked bar and friendly bar staff to greet us. It was a good thing that we had made dinner reservations in advance, because the place was packed. The food in was a disappointment. The famous clam chowder lacked "Pop", and the potatoes were mushy, and actual clams were scarce. The menu was heavy with seafood and cheese combinations that quite frankly just don't work. Cheese overpowers what should be the delicate flavor of the fish. My crab legs were soggy and limp, and the accompanying potatoes and tired green beans were uninspired. The only saving grace was the killer view and Eric the super-waiter.
