I have never been treated so rudely by restaurant staff in my life. No reservations accepted. First come first served. That's what they say, but evidently, they do reserve for whoever they want because when we got there, we waited for the next available table and when one became available, we sat down. Soon after, we were told we would have to leave because the table was reserved for someone else. A party of six who where not in house at the time would be getting our table. Another table came available and we were told someone was waiting for that table as well. When asked if they took reservations they said NO, and we were welcome to sit upstairs for the next available table. When asked if we could get on the list for next available table we were told they didn't keep a list of those waiting. We left!

I practically live at the Empire. Bruce, the owner, tolerates me simply because I'm 25% of his total income :)
If you're looking for fast food, feel free to hit the local McDonalds. If you're looking for good food, in a relaxed atmosphere, a great selection of beer (17 rotating taps) and wine, all with service that makes you feel at home, go here. I've never had a bad meal here. Nor bad service. Small, cozy, not too noisy. Who could ask for more?

The Empire Ale House is a warm and intimate pub located on a side street between the two main streets of downtown Mt. Vernon, WA., with a very welcoming ambiance. Just the place you imagine meeting up with friends and enjoying a pint. Friendly staff. The food is a notch above your average pub food with generous portions. Large selection of beers on tap and in the bottle, many which are from local micro-brews. I'll have to agree with a previous reviewer who said "It is on the small side, but that adds to the charm."

We had dinner at the Empire Ale House and are we glad we found this little gem. There were 18 beers on tap when we visited, running towards IPA's and stouts. The Ale House features regional beers. The wine list has some variety to it - we saw a lot of Layer Cake and Coppola but also found a Torrontes from Argentina and a Malbec. We had crab cakes and fish and chips, substituting a salad for the chips. The entrees were hot and crispy, and the salads were very good and colorful as well. Service was just right, and the atmosphere was very relaxing with tasteful blues in the background. The Ale House also hosts Brewers nights with regional brewers as guests. Stop by!

Visited with some girlfriends one Saturday night in January. Pretty lively place, small, nice decor. Felt ignored by the waitstaff. Large selection of local brews on tap. Wonderful wine selection with a great $5 happy hour menu. Food is consistently good, using local fresh ingredients. I like the feel of the place.
