The variety of cross-country trails in the area is immense, the snow is great, and the family-style dining lets you meet an incredible array of interesting people. You can buy a trail pass at the office and get on the trail system right outside the lodge. After you ski, you can relax in the jacuzzi, or work out in the gym if you didn't get enough exercise (huh?). The big dining room is separated from the main sitting room by a huge fireplace that keeps the place toasty warm. There is also another sitting/game area upstairs. WiFi is available in these main areas, but really, do you want to be spending your time on the computer? Appetizers at 6:30 let you start socializing 1/2 an hour before dinner.
My wife and I first stayed here in the winter of '86-'87 and had a marvelous time. After our son went off to college (he prefers downhill), we decided to come back in 2008. The trip from Seattle is normally about 5 hours (whether you take I-90 or Hwy 2), but since both passes were closed, instead of cancelling we went south to I-84 in order to get there, about a 12-hour drive - that's how much we like this place. We've been back every year since then.More
