Our family spent two nights at Basecamp, and it was awesome. Accomodations are clean and comfortable. Owners are terrific - very gracious and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area including flora, fauna, hiking trails, and more. Food is exceptional. Location is perfect for access to hiking, and promximity to Winthrop to the East and North Cascades National Park to the West. We count our time at Basecamp as the highlight of our Cascade Loop adventure.

We spent four nights at the North Cascades Base Camp for our daughter's wedding followed by a family reunion. We rented the entire lodge and the 2 bedroom cabin and were very comfortable and happy there. The innkeepers are gracious hosts and provided a delicious dinner our first night, and great breakfasts every morning. Both biologists, they provided helpful and interesting information about the flora and fauna of the area. The setting is beautiful and the rooms comfortable. The two days after the wedding (separately catered dinner) we hiked, biked, toured Winthrop.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor and in the cabin are larger than Goat Wall and Becky rooms.

Other reviews focused on the cozyness of basecamp and the location, so I will write about the food! This an all-inclusive three day weekend for our ski club, and the food was fabulous. In addition to delicious and ample breakfasts and dinners, we were provided a sandwich buffet, fruit and homemade cookies to-go for our skiing adventures. Owners Kim and Steve (and their children) were totally charming and helpful, adding to the ambiance.

We would recommend the Basecamp cabin as an excellent choice for a small group. We booked the cabin for two couples. It has comfortable sleeping arrangements, two separate bedrooms plus a loft with a sleeper-sofa. One of the bedrooms has bunk beds for kids as well as a double bed. The galley kitchen, although small, is complete with all the cooking facilities. Friends stopped by and we had 8 people in the cabin for after-ski refreshment and had plenty of space. And best of all, you can ski out the door. Mazama often has the best snow in the Methow and from Basecamp you have a number of trail possibilities available without having to drive anywhere.

Too short of a trip, only one night, but what a great, relaxing place to recharge, get back in touch with nature, read a book, or just plane sleep. How can you not love a place that doesn't have a reservation desk, but a white board on the front porch with your name and room name, and in you go? The Bondi's make you feel right at home. The lodge and rooms are not too big, not too small, just right. Shared bathrooms on the first floor. The night sky stars are spectacular. This is an all-year-round place to be: hiking, biking, snow showing, cross-country skiing. The food is all local, breakfast was hearty and healthy. The local art (for sale) is in keeping with the natural surroundings. Check out their website http://www.northcascadesbasecamp.com/ for upcoming events. I'll be back--often.

We traveled from Colorado to Mazama for a friend's wedding weekend and we had a fantastic time. The owners were absolutely wonderful and it was a beautiful setting for the wedding. The bride and groom rented out the entire Basecamp which made it easy and fun for us to be together, and we even rented bicycles to ride from Basecamp to the wedding rehearsal on one of the towns nature paths. The accommodations were great- it's very quiet and peaceful. The walk to the wedding site through their beautiful forest behind their house led to a perfect wedding site right on the river with views of the mountains.
Overall, we can't say enough about the owners, their hospitality, and wonderful location.

We have never reviewed anything online but felt compelled to share our thoughts about our wonderful recent experience at North Cascades Basecamp.

The aptly named "Basecamp" is a very cozy, lodge-type setting. Common areas include two large dining tables where we sat every morning while chatting with our hosts and other guests, drinking coffee and enjoying a warm breakfast made from local ingredients. There is also, a comfortable living room with an amazing selection of local interest books, board games and a wood burning fireplace as well as an upstairs loft with toys and books for children.

We stayed upstairs in the Lost River room which has a queen and twin bunk beds, perfect for a small family. It was quiet, clean, basic and comfy. The shared bathroom upstairs was large and clean.

Hiking trails behind house are perfect for smaller children. They are very gentle with plenty of things to keep it interesting...beaver dams, log bridges, and a fish pond all lead to the Methow River where we skipped stones, launched stick "boats" and marveled at the beautiful scenery all around. Although we weren't there in the winter, the XC ski trails run right through the property.

The best part of the lodge were our hosts, Steve and Kim, their two young children and their dog! They were especially warm and welcoming and made us feel like we were visiting old friends. Both of them have an ecology/environmental background and are very knowledgeable about the local wildlife, geology, history, etc. They provided information on fun family-friendly hikes and activities.

An added bonus: the Mazama Store right up the road was a great place to hang out & get a hot cup of coffee or a wonderful bowl of soup.

Another added bonus for climbers: North Cascades Mountain Guides is also just up the road. They are very experienced and offer plenty of great guided climbs in the area.

With so many outdoor activities in the Methow Valley, we think the Basecamp is a perfect place to start and end the day. We barely scratched the surface and we're already planning our next visit (hopefully this winter)!
