“Really good breakfast out on the deck”
Reviewed June 24, 2011

When the sun is shinning in the Northwest it is always nice to take advantage of being able to sit outside. While the overlook view of the Cedar River is a little obstructed it is still pleasant. I have only eaten here for breakfast but it has always been good. This last time I had the Testy Mess and it was excellent. Cooked perfectly with the potatoes cooked all the way through but the onions and peppers a little more firm. Nice way to start the day.

“Testy Chef is Awesome .. Food and Service”
Reviewed May 27, 2010

We've been going there for 4 years when we visit Maple Valley. The service is ALWAYS cheerful and funny and attentive. The food is delicious and beautiful. We mostly go for a big robust tasty breakfast. The Testy Mess is our fav, but the specials all are mouth watering. It is a busy little haven for breakfast or lunch. Recently I paid $40 for 3 big breakfasts with coffee and a VERY generous tip. I usually take home enough for the next breakfast.

“I was worried they'd spit in my food.”
Reviewed March 16, 2010

We visited this restaurant, and were so so disappointed with the service. Yes, we found the food to be excellent - aside from wondering if they might be doing something to our food in the kitchen aside from cooking it.

The trip started out well enough, with the staff suggesting we sit outdoors since it was really a lovely day. The atmosphere was excellent, and we excitedly reviewed the menu. The waitress came to take our drink orders, and two of us ordered waters, while one member of our party ordered a beer. We also ordered an appetizer at this time.

The waitress brought the beer pretty much straightaway, and a short time later the appetizer arrived. However, the waters still were not brought out. We figured perhaps they forgot, so we asked for them again. When our entrees came out, she still had yet to bring us our waters, and so we requested, yet again, that they be brought out.
The waitress gave us real attitude from that point on, and did bring out the waters, eventually...I'd say about ten minutes later.

This was not an isolated incedent, as the beer-ordering member of our party later returned with a seperate group, and had an equally disappointing experience.

The attitude is neither endearing nor cute, but just dreadful. It makes me certain that I will not return, because I genuinely wonder what is being done in that shady kitchen. It's really a shame, because the location, decor, and food are all good.

“One Of The Area's Most Unique Restaurants”
Reviewed February 26, 2010

It looks so modest when seen from the highway, but the Testy Chef serves up breakfast and lunch in a small cafe overlooking the Ceder River. Heaters and removable plastic windows make eating on the deck a 12 month option. The hardworking help is delightfully cranky, but in a good natured way. As rural and delightful as the town that it's located in.
