The Bistro is located inside the American Girl store and really caters to the girls. We took our daughter and her best friend here for her 6th birthday. We opted to do the "birthday celebration" which gave us each (including children) a drink, appetizer, entree, and group dessert. The birthday girl also got a special crown, each doll got a crown, the girls got "goody bags" and the dolls got cups and saucers so the girls could give them drinks as well. The cost is $28 per child and $18 per adult.
You could certainly order a la carte and forgo the goody bag and crown but we were splurging. The appetizers were about $4-7 and include things like artichoke dip (with pita and carrots/celery in a 4oz ramakin), pretzel bites (5), fruit skewers (3) and more. The artichoke dip was very good and flavorful and the pretzel bites were surprisingly good.
Entrees included grilled cheese and tomato soup (what the girls had - they really liked it), mac and cheese, pizza, mini burger/mini dog, and chicken tenders for the kids (or those with kid-like tastes :) For more mature tastes, there is pasta, hamburger, ham and cheese panini, and grilled salmon.
I had the salmon with mashed potatoes, broccoli and carrots. It wasn't bad, however it wasn't outstanding either. The salmon was overly dry. The mashed potatoes were flavorful and very good. I felt the vegetables were a little undercooked.
For dessert, they were out of cakes (they let us know that before we decided on the celebration dinner) so we got the banana split. And some banana split it was! This thing is 3 feet long! It was awesome for the 4 of us.
All in all, we came for the experience for our daughter. She told us thank you for the best birthday ever (oh, to be 6 again). However, she was thrilled. She got to sit with her doll and eat and got a goody bag that included a shirt for her doll, a book, a "balloon" for her doll, and more.
The food was alright (overpriced but you're paying for the experience) and the service could have been better (slow for as few tables as were full). I would return for a daddy/daughter meal or some special occasion.
