The lake is a great place to spend an afternoon, any day of the year. You can walk, run or bike the 3.5 mile path around it. The path even goes beneath all the roadways so you do not have to deal with traffic. There are three playgrounds (one is even fenced in), a Japanese garden, plenty of places to fish from, and you can have a picnic anywhere.

This is a beautiful park, you can walk a three mile trail around a lake with little islands, bridges, and a Japanese garden. Besides the beautiful park setting, the tree lined streets have 1920's era houses that are architecturally interesting and downright fabulous.

The Lake Sacajawea has gorgeous old growth trees to make for a nice green atmosphere. There are kayak/canoe rentals, several docks for fishing bass, croupy, and other fish, great paths for biking, walking/jogging, and strolling my baby. Several playground locations for kids(some fenced in). I enjoy the live music in the summer time and come here often to get some peace and fresh air or to take my son for an outing in his stroller and to swing at the parks.
My only word of concern would be to hang out during daylight, lock your car doors, and watch out for the aggressive big white geese. (the ducks are usually not as fierce)
In whole this is one of my favorite places in Longview to visit.

Lake Sacajawea is sort of the social and recreational hub of Longview. It's very neatly kept with plenty of tables to picnic on and grassy areas for relaxing. To me it's more of a big pond than a lake. There's three playgrounds for the kids to play in. (one of which is actually part of Parks and Rec.)

There's a dock located roughly in the center of the lake where several events are held throughout the summer including the Go Fourth Festival, and live bands on Thursday evenings in the summer.

You can kayak and fish (they stock the lake) but I personally wouldn't eat anything caught there.

There's also a Japanese Garden which is nice, and also serves as a favorite place for squirrels.

They also have several fountains that are illuminated at night.

A wonderful park with fishing, a trail for bike riding or walking all around the lake. The lake has a couple of fountains. It is well maintained. There is a pet friendly area with bags if you forgot yours. There are a couple of playgrounds and restroom facilities.
However, the maintenance budget with the city is pretty small so be considerate and pick up after yourself and your pets. Enjoy!
