When it comes to burgers , I'm a minimalist. Bun, meat, onions and mustard. That's it, the meat needs to do the talking to get me back. Fries just get in the way, and a coke to wash it down.
So being my first time at a Five Guys, I explained what I wanted to the counter guy which resulted in their regular hamburger, with fresh onions and mustard. Sounds right, so I paid and found a table to enjoy the free salted peanuts. Even though the place was almost empty, the atmosphere was very loud and noisy. Playing rock loudly makes everyone shout just to be heard, making for a really noisy place. I'm not a prude when it comes to rock, but come on guys, turn it down a bit.
The burger arrived wrapped in foil and in a bag. Everything I ordered was there and to my surprise, their regular comes with two patties. This looked promising. The bun was a fresh, simple and good. The onion slices were good and fresh as was the yellow mustard. The meat. Imagine hand formed patties from the outdoor grill, that's how they appeared, but being fried on a flat top, they carried a lot of grease. From a flavor standpoint, the meat was ok and there was plenty of it, but the amount of grease present took away from what could be tasty stuff.
The bottom line: good burger but too greasy for me. That plus the very loud atmosphere, and $8.90 cost takes it off my recommend list. At $6.00 it would be a good deal.
